New York City… day 1… part 3… dogs, subways, and… uh… stuff…

a 1

One last set of photos of a cute dog before we moved on from Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn…

a 2

We had stuff to see.

a 3

My first New York subway station!

a 4

It was, ummm, everything you would think it would be.

a 5

I loved every minute of it.

a 6

Oh yeah, here we go. It is like a Disneyland ride… only noisier, and smellier.

a 7

Jessica, get out of the way… I am taking pictures. Kids these days.

a 8

Now we are in New York.

a 9

We got out of the subway in Manhattan, and there was the new World Trade Tower.

a 10

And between us and there, a weird shopping mall called the Oculus.

a 11

Of course Jessica suggested we pass through it. It has shopping.

a 12

But it was an interesting building.

I worked a 16-hour shift yesterday, but I did finally get a really bad photo of one of those sneaky coyotes…

a 1

I know, it’s bad. I said it was. It was four in the morning, and I had no time to aim my phone because those varmints are fast.

a 2

No, that isn’t a sunset. That is a San Diego sunrise.

a 3

My relief officer didn’t show up, so I had to pull a double shift.

a 4

As bad as these pictures are, they do fit in with the pictures of scorpions, tarantulas and black widow spiders I have shared with you from my job.

a 5

I am still waiting for the rattlesnake photo-op.

New York City… day 1… part 2… wait, there was a battle in Brooklyn???

a 1

Yes, there was. In the Revolutionary War. You should Google that.

a 2

I was still wiping butter off my lips from the croissant I got at the farmer’s market, and we walked up the hill and into the park. That would be Fort Greene Park, in Brooklyn, New York.

a 3

Don’t feel bad, my daughter didn’t know about that part of our history either.

a 4

But she does now.

a 5

We went into the little museum, past the musket…

a 6

And read some placards and saw some Revolutionary War weapons.

a 7

Then we walked towards the monument, which, I believe, is dedicated to all the American soldiers who died of disease on British prison ships in New York Harbor.

a 8

And that is when I spotted the little guy in the monkey suit being followed by a film crew.

a 9

There were signs up around the park saying that Disney was shooting a movie about child development.

a 10

Tai Chi in the park.

a 11

The kid starting interacting with other kids. The camera guys looked a little panicked.

a 12

People were lining up for a dog Halloween costume contest later that day. I wish we could have gone back to see the dogs in their costumes, but I did pet most of those dogs. Ha!

a 13

Okay, good luck, camera guys.

a 14

I did manage to walk around in the background a few times, so I might be in a Disney movie. Now…  or should I say soon… back to the adventures.

New York City… day 1… part 1…

a 1

I guess, technically, it is day two, but we didn’t do much the first night. There is my older daughter Jessica, being all New Yorkey, in the elevator in her building, as we headed out for the first big day of adventures.

a 2

Jessica and her husband Jason have lived in New York for a year now. They have adapted quite well.

a 3

A church that looks like a castle.

a 4

My first daylight view of the Empire State Building. I thought it would be bigger.

a 5

Brownstones.

a 6

Brownstones are a quintessential part of New York.

a 7

It feels like New York.

a 8

They let me pose with a tree.

a 9

Who doesn’t like posing with trees?

a 10

The Fall colors were striking. Wait until you see Central Park.

a 11

The first thing we did was stop at a farmer’s market for some street food. Is that orange glowing, or is it my kid?

a 12

I petted so  many dogs, and made friends with so many babies and little kids.

a 13

If I took a picture of every dog I met, and every kid I met, we would never finish this.

How to see most of New York City in 3-and-a-half days, even if it almost kills you… part 1…

a 1

Unusually for me, I have decided, at least at first, to share the pictures of my recent adventure in New York City in the order that I took them. I doubt this will last. The crack squirrels in my head will get sidetracked, see an amusing theme, and chase it.

a 2

But for now, I am just finishing up with the photos I took from the rooftop of the building where my older daughter and her husband live in Brooklyn.

a 3

You can see the Brooklyn Bridge in that one. I am not going to point out the famous buildings yet. I guarantee there will be other pictures of all of them.

a 4

More of my famous ‘wiggly light pictures’.

a 5

I do those on purpose. I like them.

a 6

Later, I may do some digital effects to the best ones.

a 7

Some turn out great.

a 8

It is just a thing I like to do.

a 9

This was just the first night in New York, after a really long day.

a 10

A quick view of how small my daughter’s apartment is.

a 11

Except for a hallway going to the door that has the kitchen in it, and a bathroom, that is all there is. But they have a great view.

a 12

That is the building from the outside. And it is daylight, which means that we are ready to start the first day of our adventure… tomorrow… I have to go to work soon, dang it.

Okay, I am back from my latest adventure, now try to guess where I went by looking at these photos…

a 1

Hey, I didn’t say I was going to make it easy on you.

a 2

After flying for more than five hours… (hint)… I went up on a tall building and decided to practice with some more of my ‘wiggly light’ photography.

a 3

Here is another hint… the tall building is where my older daughter and her husband live.

a 4

And it is surrounded by other tall buildings, and near a whole bunch of really tall buildings.

a 5

I took about 800 pictures in three-and-a-half days, so even if I delete some crappy ones, you will have weeks to figure this out.

a 6

And no, they aren’t all wiggly pictures.

a 7

I just really like the wiggly pictures.

a 8

Oh come on, that one is a dead giveaway.

a 9

Too easy!

a 10

That one is barely wiggly.

a 11

Did you get it yet?

a 12

Here is my last hint… you can see the Brooklyn Bridge over to the right in that one.

I will not be around for a while…

unnamed

I am going on an adventure and I am not bringing my laptop. Just my camera. I will be gone for about 5 days, but when I come back, there will be pictures, oh yes, there will be.

I will see some stuff, and things, and sites and sights. I will do crazy stuff. I will learn about people and places and history.

Then I will come back and tell you all about it.

unnamed (1)

Okay, bye. Don’t wander off.

Messing with art and history; a ‘spot what’s wrong with this picture’ game… part 21… and this is to wash the image of a naked Trump out of your mind, like that could ever happen…

b 4 copy

To unsee that other image, you would need to soak your eyeballs in bleach and get a complete lobotomy. I am sorry.

Messing with art and history; a ‘spot what’s wrong with this picture’ game… part 20… and I am really sorry about this one…

b 4

In my defense, I didn’t create the naked tRump statue, although, truth be told, I sort of love whoever did.

I used my digital microscope on those ceramic bowls I made… part 2…

a 1

This is how you put the multi in multimedia.

a 2

You take a ceramics class with your daughter…

a 3

You make a couple of bowls, wait for it to get kiln-baked…

a 4

You go back and slap a bunch of glazes on it with no idea how it will turn out…

a 5

Then you wait for it to be baked again…

a 6

Then you bring them home..

a 7

Then you take close up pictures with a digital microscope…

a 8

And then you put them on a blog…

a 9

Among all your other multimedia art…

a 10

And I didn’t even do any versions with funny digital effects to add another multi to the multimedia count.

a 11a 12a 13a 14a 15a 16

That last one it the unglazed bottom of one of the bowls, just so you know.
