So, this happened at work…

Glad I am the security guard and not the plumber.

Pouring My Art Out presents: In the presence of presents… part 1…

I am ready to begin unveiling the epic saga of my Christmas presents received at that late-Christmas visit to the Bay Area. Those are a set of wood-carving chisels and a special carving hammer I got from my younger daughter Mollie. Now I can work on tikis is style. Just so you know, the chisels set was wrapped, but Mollie does one present every year with a special flair, so she individually wrapped each chisel and put them back in the pouch.

Oh yeah, rubber crab claw hands! They know me so well.

A Go Pro… no way!

That is one of the reasons I am trying to teach myself how to edit videos.

Ooooh… night vision binoculars that take photos and videos. Another reason to hone my video skills.

But why are you showing us a boring photo of your mother’s backyard, I hear you wondering?

You said you were done with photos of your trip to the Bay Area.

Seriously, what are you up to?

And what is going on with that picture of you and your son-in-law Jason?

Who took these photos? Did they climb a tree to get that angle?

This is all so mystifying.

Why yes, yes it is.

What does this video, taken with my cell phone, of mist captured in slow motion in a flashlight beam, have to do with our late Christmas trip to the Bay Area???

That is a good question. And the answer is that the stuff coming up required me to learn a new video editing program, and I want to be able to add music and voiceovers and stuff, so I am practicing with some videos I have on my phone.

Almost the last pictures I took on our late Christmas adventure to the Bay Area…

I say almost the last pictures, because I have some stuff coming up that is not quite like my usual stuff.

It will give us some new perspectives.

New angles.

I am excited about it, but it requires some new tech skills and more work. So for now, enjoy these pictures of San Francisco, the bay, the Golden Gate, and so forth, taken from hills across the bay near the house I grew up in.

Not that these aren’t nice.

I never get tired of these views.

But I do like to mix things up.

Oh, that one I took on that daytrip to see our friends at the beach near the Golden Gate Bridge. That is the city, as seen from just on the other end of the bridge.

And a lot of these are taken from higher in the hills than my mom’s house, near where I went to elementary school.

Where I spotted that Redtail Hawk, when we went to… uh… do some other stuff.

An artist’s conceptualization of the new tRump mansion and presidential library…

So far, the sites chosen to build these historic buildings have been narrowed down to Lithuania, Latvia, Columbia or a small island off the coast of Cuba.

Palm trees and snow…

That is snow. And in the foreground, palm trees. Now, I know that to many of you, that is a pathetic amount of snow.

But this is Southern California. This is the pass leading from the central valley to Los Angeles. That snow fell as low as 4,000 feet.

This snowfall isn’t unknown. The pass gets some snow most years. But not that much, and not that low down. It closed the highway… which made my drive from the Bay Area, where we did that late Christmas thing at my mom’s house, to San Diego a much longer trip than usual, and it is already 500 miles of traffic.

On top of that, the storms had washed away a section of highway 1… again. The 5 and the 1 are the two main North to South arteries of California.

I was stuck here for hours while the road was plowed.

I suppose some of you will say; “See, it is cold in Southern California, global climate change is a hoax!”.

I am not going to bother explaining once more how warm weather in one spot can cause colder weather in another spot.

Google how weather and climate work.

Anyway, once I made it past the snow…

I was in Los Angeles just 20 minutes later.

Seriously, do not take pictures while you drive a car. I was a professional driver. And I just point my camera without looking, snap a bunch of shots, and delete the ones that are bad. Yay, digital photography.

The very last photos of flowers that I took on our late Christmas visit to my 97-year-old mother’s house in the Bay Area…

I could have used these to do one more post in my series on the study of light and shadow.

But I will let them stand on their own.

Because… flowers!!!

Who doesn’t like flowers?

Even though I am back in San Diego, I am still finishing up the posts of pictures I took on our trip.

One more post of shots of San Francisco and the Golden Gate across the bay.

And then a post of some photos of some snowy mountains I took near Los Angeles on the way home, where snow rarely falls, and almost never in this amount.

And then a post about the Christmas presents I got this year…

And then, I am going to start some posts of things I did with some of my gifts, and this blog is moving to a whole new level… that is a hint, by the way.

Now some of you may have noticed that I usually try to put 12 photos in each photo post, because this seems like a good number.

So there is the last picture I took of turkeys outside my mom’s house.

And one bonus shot of Alcatraz Island out in the Bay.
