A closer look… part 16…

a 1

I do have a correction to make. In the last post in this series, in which I am playing around with macro photography, I said that I had used the smallest of the macro lens spacers. The 20mm is not, it turns out, the smallest one.

a 2

These photos are taken with the smallest one… the 12mm.

a 3

I am still not sure which of the three sizes take the best close up macro photos.

a 4

Or if it is possible to take photos just like these with the correct distancing of the camera with a regular or zoom lens…

a 5

But I know I love these photos.

a 6

I am still planning on taking some macro photos of stuff around the house and garden, and then cropping them down to one very small area, and turning it into a game where you have to guess what the photos are of.

a 7

I might also take the macro lenses down to that pavilion in Balboa Park in San Diego, and take some macro pictures of those crazy-beautiful orchids they grow there.

a 8

Who doesn’t want to get up close and personal with some orchid sexy bits?

a 9

I do also agree with my older daughter, who says that most of these photos seem a little on the dark side. Sticking the lens right up against stuff tends to cut off the light source. Yes, I can lighten them up in Photoshop, but for now, I am just getting used to the macro lens spacer thingies.

a 10

These are all pictures of that ‘fire bowl’ I made in my glass blowing class.

Back-lit bougainvillea…

a 1

Just a few photos I took on my phone…

a 2

From right outside the guard house where I work…

a 3

Keeping the rich people in the exclusive private community safe from poor people… like me. That, is a bird of paradise flower.

a 4

I don’t know what the green blob over on the right is. I think it is the waning sunlight doing something weird on the lens.

a 5

It isn’t the worst place to work, even though I hate it when it is busy. There is a lovely fountain shaped like a giant vase, that splashes outside my door. The flowers hang from the eaves of my little guard house.

a 6

I see lots of birds, and the occasional coyote running by.

a 7

I listen to classic 70’s hard rock when it is slow, and a British pod cast called: My Dad Wrote A Porno. You should check that out.

a 8

And of course there are the colorful hot air balloons sailing by overhead.

a 9

So yeah, it could be worse.

A note from my doctor…

a 1

Arthur Browne is unequivocally the most healthy human being to ever have a blog. He has the constitution of a horse, the legs of a super model, giant hands and feet, a lovely singing voice, and eyes you could fall into. He weighs almost the same amount he weighed in high school, and is almost as tall now as he was then. He still has all his hair, plus some  extra hair growing on parts of his body that never had hair before. He is that virile.

If Mr. Browne would eat more fruits and vegetables, he could well live to be over 9,000 years old. He is a sexy man, and I would date him if he wasn’t my patient.  He… wait… what? Oh, he is also very humble. This is his… uh… my official medical record for Mr. Browne.

Doctor Arnold Brownestein.

A closer look… part 15…

a 1

I am still playing around with those macro filters, the spacers that move the two lenses of a camera further apart, and let you take really close up shots.

a 2

This time, I am using the smallest one, the 20mm.

a 3

I do love doing these.

a 10

These photos are of another project from that glass blowing class I took , this time of the paper weight, the first thing I ever made there. I don’t know if this is a good, representative test, because the colored glass is submerged farther down inside clear glass in this one.

a 4

I am also still wondering if the macro spacer things are really necessary.

a 5

Maybe I could take these same images just by playing with the camera using the zoom lens a little further away. I will have to try that.

a 6

But these are coming out pretty well.

a 7

I am also still coming to grips with the tiny field of focus. I haven’t been cropping these photos very much. I even like the unfocused parts.

a 8

I loved working with greens and blues in the molten glass.

a 9

You gotta love earth colors, right?

a 11

Oh, yeah.

The Trump/Putin connection…

a 1

Putin helped tRump get elected. He thought he could then control the man in the White House, because he has leverage. He has the ‘golden shower’ tapes. His plan fell apart because he didn’t realize that tRump would be so ineffective as president that he couldn’t even help himself, let alone Putin.

Trump’s new product lines… part 1…

Blank silver spray bottle template

As Trump’s hotels continue to hemorrhage cash, and the only money he can rake in comes from siphoning off donations from other rich asshats and deluded poor people who think he can keep the scary dark people away, the Donald is looking for more ways to stay however rich he still is… you know, like by starting new product lines for businesses that he was supposed to have divested himself from.

In the spirit of helpfulness, I am going to try to come up with some ideas to help the guy out.

Fell free to chime in with ideas of your own.

A closer look… part 16… no fancy filters, just tiny bubbles… and huge dust…

a 1

I am still playing around with those macro lens filters loaned to me by my son-in-law, which, I remind you, don’t have lenses in them, they just move the lens inside your camera and the one on the regular attachment further apart. I am trying to figure out which size macro lens… or non-lens… is my favorite.

a 2

I took all these with the 36 mm one, which is the biggest. Tomorrow, I will try one of the other ones again. I have three sizes.

a 3

I didn’t use any artistic digital filters on any of these images. Fell free to guess what they are photos of.

a 4

I am still learning stuff… like the fact that if there is any dust or dirt on the object you are taking photos of, you can see it all.

a 5

And you do have to manually adjust your focus. No auto focus with macro photography.

a 6

I think I am getting better. These are at least as good as the flower pictures I started off with… except for the dirt, I mean.

a 7

The problem is, I dusted the outside of the object in question, but then took some shots of the inside, near the top… which I didn’t dust. I do love the tiny bubbles though!

a 8

Imperfections and all, the world, when viewed close up, is a magical place.

a 9

If you guessed that these were all photos of that first vase I made at my glass blowing class, you win a free, all expense paid visit… to my blog.

Artistic filters on an alien from my action/humor science fiction novel series…

imageedit_1_9971066441

Neon alien… good name for a punk band.

imageedit_2_2715423766

Groovy rainbow alien… good name for what was going on in my head during most of the 70’s.

imageedit_14_9819896467

Dark alien… good name for a sci-fi television series.

imageedit_19_8163088228

Instead of making up funny captions, I could tell you about this alien species.

imageedit_22_2995025217

Ha… space alien! They are called the XXo, which is pronounced: zho- with a soft ‘zh’ sound, and a hard ‘o’. You sort of have to make a buzzing sound for the ‘zh’ part.

imageedit_29_3812855612

Humans often call them the ‘Giant Broccoli’, because they do look a little like really big broccoli, except they have tentacles instead of littlerplant nubs. They are big, standing more than eight feet tall, not including the tentacles. They can stand upright on either set of tentacles. In fact, they are a rarity of nature, being symmetrical not only side to side, but top to bottom as well.

imageedit_30_5483775157

Their eyes form a belt around their waists, or midpoints, or the middle of their torsos, or whatever, interspersed with small, vertical mouth slits.  They can see in any and all directions, and use any of their mouths to speak with.

imageedit_31_8006205633

You don’t want to make one angry.

There is the original picture I did of a Xxo in Photoshop.

A closer look… part 15…

imageedit_3_8883279662

No, it isn’t molten gold…

imageedit_1_8692290250

Or a really good acid trip…

imageedit_4_8093012433

It isn’t an impressionist painting…

imageedit_7_5357936739

It isn’t an abstract painting…

imageedit_8_9591254863

Or a surrealist painting…

imageedit_10_4532269924

It isn’t a nightmare…

imageedit_11_2431148633

It isn’t a dreamscape…

imageedit_13_8569139823

It isn’t flight of fancy…

imageedit_17_6887784611

It isn’t outer space…

imageedit_23_6426699984

It isn’t inner space…

imageedit_24_5471579872

It isn’t reality…

imageedit_25_5382953457

It isn’t heaven…

imageedit_26_5855112813

And it isn’t hell…

What it is, is all those things. But mostly, it is a close up macro photo I took of our fake marble kitchen counter top…

b 3

I just used some digital filters to make it all those other things, so now it is all those things and more… it is art.
