New York City… day 3… part 1… wait, why am I being fondled by a giant ape???

a 1

I will get to that. You have survived the first two days of my 3-and-a-half-day adventure in New York to visit my daughter and son-in law. But the last full day was a big one.

a 2

The kids were working, so my wife and I jumped on the subway from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Nothing feels more New Yorky than riding the subway.

a 3

I don’t see how that can be the world’s largest store, but the day before, while Jason and I were at the museum, my wife and daughter had gone there, and they were pretty excited about it.

a 4

My wife and I went to the Empire State Building. That is a model of it, right after it was built.

a 5

The thing is… (hey thing, I hope you aren’t afraid of heights)… that if you go to the Empire State building as a tourist, they have turned it into a freekin’ Disneyland ride. That is a fake elevator shaft. Yo walk out onto the glass, and it feels like you are hanging over infinity. I did the same thing at the Eiffel Tower, where the drop through the glass is real, but this was just as scary.

a 6

And above you, it goes up to a fake nowhere.

a 7

As you make your way up the building, between elevator rides, you are funneled through these weird exhibit rooms. That is me, helping the guys build the skyscraper.  The walls of the rooms are showing movies of life-sized workers.

a 8

Cranes are hauling huge iron beams around.

a 9

The boss is yelling at the workers. There is a lot of banging and hammering.

a 10

Other guys are tossing red-hot rivets to guys who catch them in leather buckets, and give them to the men who rivet the building together. It is really well-done and sort of awesome. A great photo op.

a 11

There are lots of old photos to look at.

a 12

The King Kong room is fun, since the building was a big part of the old movie.

a 13

Her keeps moving around, looking at you through different windows. When he exhales, the widow steams up.

a 14

Behind an old desk, biplanes are flying around, shooting at King Kong, while he bellows his rage.

a 15

It is crazy.

a 16

And everybody had to get a picture of their friends and family in the giant ape hand that was smashed through a wall.

New York City… day 2… part 10… Is it racist if a white guy puts on white face?

a 1

No, I am just kidding. After the end of the second day of our 3-and-a-half-day trip to New York, I somehow let my daughter talk me into giving me a facial.

a 2

It took longer than I expected.

a 3

First, I had to scrub my face with a brush that was supposed to spin by itself, but the battery was dead, so I had to do the swirls myself.

a 4

Then, I had to open my pores with a hot, wet towel.

a 5

I had to let that layer dry on my face, which was okay, because my feet hurt. I think there was a green layer that went on at some point. My wife and son-in-law were playing video games. I was just trying to rest my feet.

a 6

I have to admit, it felt pretty good… until my daughter started peeling the dry mask off my face. I think I should have shaved first.

a 7

These photos are all from my phone, so the quality isn’t as good, but we did go up on the roof again, to look at the New York night. There is the Brooklyn Bridge again, to the right.

a 8

Manhattan, with my daughter, wife, and son in law silhouetted against the skyline.

a 9

They do have a pretty nice view.

a 10

Walking back to our hotel just a few blocks away, I got a photo of an old church.

a 11

And next to it, this old place, which seems out of place in Brooklyn.

a 12

My skin did feel extra soft for the next few days.

So there, you made it to the end of day 2.

New York City… day 2… part 9… some more random New York City photos taken from a Lyft…

a 1

That is a part of Manhattan that a lot of tourists don’t get to see up close.

a 2

My son-in-law and I are still being driven back from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park, returning from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

a 3

We were going to meet our wives, who had been shopping on this rainy, blustery day.

a 4

You have made it almost to the end of the second day of my 3-and-a-half-day trip!

a 5

There is only one more post… or two… about this day.

a 6

And it involves me doing something I have never done before.

a 7

Something I never thought I would do.

a 8

Something I didn’t think I wanted to do. Hello, Brooklyn.

a 9

Wait, that is the view from our hotel room. How New York is that?

a 10

They are doing a lot of construction in New York.

a 11

That building on the left is where my daughter and son-in-law live. I smudged the name out. Always use protection. Okay, see ya.

New York City… day 2… part 8… some random New York City photos taken from a Lyft, while we discussed Buddhism with the driver, who was from Tibet…

a 1

Look, there’s the dang Brooklyn Bridge again.

a 2

I took these after my son-in-law and I visited the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and took that short walk in Central Park.

a 3

We were going to meet our wives after their shopping expedition.

a 4

The rain had more or less stopped.

a 5

Half way through our trip, I was starting to feel like I knew New York just a little.

a 6

Those are some low clouds… wait… what is up with that building on the right?

a 7

It has veins… or a huge plant growing up its sides.

a 8

Interesting.

a 9

Oh yeah… New York flying rats.

a 10

Don’t park there, and don’t look up.

a 11

So, there is one more post of photos from this drive.

a 12

And then you get to see some funny pictures of how I spent our downtime at the end of this, our second day of the 3-and-a-half-day adventure.

Sorry, new people, but this ain’t no travel blog… part 4…

z 25

You just happened to show up right after I went on one of my adventures. But trust me, this ain’t no travel blog. This is where you go to see stuff that will make you snort coffee out of your snout. Things you can’t unsee. I mean, not always, but yeah.

New York City… day 2… part 7… Central Park and some random city pictures…

a 1

Central Park was right behind the Museum of Art, and it had stopped raining, so my son-in-law and I took a little walk.

a 2

I haven’t been in Central Park… or New York… since I was a kid, other than a few airline layovers.

a 3

When you can put a reservoir this big in one corner of a park you know it is a big park.

a 4

The leaves were turning red and gold. Don’t worry, my wife and I did a whole Central Park thing on our last day, so there will be more photos.

a 5

Because we are only half way through this adventure!

a 6

HA!

a 7

The we caught a Lyft, back past the museum…

a 8

And we headed back to Brooklyn, to meet up with our wives, with me snapping away out the windows.

a 9

It was a crazy ride, through Manhattan, over bridges, and under the crazy clouds.

a 10

City life.

a 11

The Brooklyn Bridge again.

a 12

I may have more of these photos still to share.

New York City… day 2… part 6… the very last of the New York Cosmopolitan Museum of Art photos…

a 1

You have survived to the midway point! This is more or less noon on the second day of our 3-and-a-half-day trip to New York.

a 2

Now don’t get too excited.

a 3

I might have taken the most photos on the last day.

a 4

It was a pretty exciting day.

a 5

My son-in-law, admiring some art.

a 6

Because it was raining so hard, this was an easy day.

a 8

The inside of an Indonesian temple inside a museum.

a 9

Anyway.

a 10

If you find art boring, this is about it.

a 11

All good things must come to an end. Also, why do I not have a dragon ladle and soup pot???

a 12

Okay, goodbye, huge museum.

a 13

I wish I could have seen more of you.

a 14

I am sure that there are a lot more penises in there that I didn’t get photos of.

a 15

That sounded wrong.

a 16

Let’s get out of here.

New York City… day 2… part 5… wait, this is inside a museum?

a 1

Yes it is.

a 2

On the top floor of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art there is a big room.

a 3

It is lit by a big skylight.

a 4

If I had a bigger house, I would totally do this in it.

a 5

I want one of those.

a 6

It is sort of a magical place.

a 7

There is even another, smaller room, just off this big room.

a 8

Zen and tranquility.

a 9

The smaller room might have been even cooler than the bigger room.

a 10

Light and shadows.

a 11

Okay, people, one more post about art and the museum, and we are ready to move on.
