Digital fun with one of the illustrations I did for my children’s book; The Lonely Little Wizard… part 2…

a 2

Here are some ‘dark’ interpretations of the following illustration from my children’s book, The Lonely Little Wizard…

a 1

As you can see, the original is a lighthearted watercolor and ink image.

a 3

But I used some digital filters called names like: ‘night’, ‘smoke’, ‘darkness’ and ‘sadness’…

a 4

Because… you know…

a 5

I have crack squirrels living in my head.

The Washington D.C. Hillbillies… a rewritten song…

a 1 a

Once upon a time there was a guy named Trump

The kind of ignoramus that needs help to take a dump

Had a cancelled TV show, and some failing real estate

Then he tapped into a big, deep-seated vein of hate

Racism, that is… white privilege… xenophobia…

Well, the next thing you know, old Trump’s the president

Kin folks said, “Hey, tell the ‘majority’ to get bent!”

“Guess the seat of power, is where we ought to be.”

So they loaded up Air Force One, and they moved to D.C.

Washington, that is… corrupt politicians… the swamp…

Well, I hope it’s soon time to say goodbye, to Trump and all his kin

And I would like to thank them for the mess this country is in

Let’s not invite them back again, to Washington D.C.

Or let those commie bastards fuck with our democracy

Putin, that is… crime lord… oligarch…

Y’all don’t come back now, y’hear?

Digital fun with one of the illustrations I did for my children’s book; The Lonely Little Wizard… part 1…

imageedit_2_4356492172

I love that neon filter…

imageedit_5_2487724822

Is it an optical illusion, or does the little female wizard look like a mean troll?

imageedit_1_6484861787

That one looks almost like the original… which I am not even going to add to this post… but the book is available, over there—> in my sidebar—> perfect for young readers who are learning to read, or like to be read to. It is a delightful tale of the quest for friendship.

A digital view of a San Francisco sunset…

imageedit_2_5104596648

The ’emboss’ filter…

a 1

Not an improvement on the photo I took at Christmas time, but it does look cool.

imageedit_1_8766148466

The ‘neon’ filter is interesting.

imageedit_5_2008460938

I forget what that filter is called, but I like the way that only the Golden Gate Bridge remains identifiable.

imageedit_6_4707308471

‘Space’ filter… the final digital frontier.

imageedit_7_7682275574

The sky looks like waves.

imageedit_8_2001947503

Hmmmm…

imageedit_9_2649097882

I do love the ‘flame’ filter.

imageedit_10_6533697027

But I will never get sick of the ‘groovy rainbow’.

Detours: A California adventure… part 13; Goodbye, Santa Cruz, the end of the second day…

a 1

My cousins and I had so much fun at the tide pools on my first night in Santa Cruz, that we decided to visit the beach again.

a 2

We had to park at the top of some bluffs… or cliffs…

a 3

That meant we had to walk down a really tall stairway carrying a lot of beach toys…

a 4

But it also meant that I got a few good photos of a cute part of Santa Cruz, and the beach.

a 5

More tide pools.

a 6

And more kelp forest.

a 7

It was almost time to say goodbye to my cousins.

a 8

All the other little kids on the beach were wearing little wet suits.

a 9

But we come from hardy stock.

a 10

I mean, yeah, both kids were shivering and had blue lips by the time we left…

a 11

But they had fun, and I met a bunch of cute kids and petted some nice dogs. Okay, we are to the last day of my whirlwind, detour-packed adventure down the coast of California. Join me later for the part where my adventure got really twisted.

Detours: A California adventure… part 12; The halfway point…

a 1

This post takes us to the end of my morning adventure with my big cousin and my two little cousins, to that little farm on the coast near Santa Cruz, in Northern California.

a 2

After this morning of fun, we went back to my cousin’s house… or is that cousins’ house?… for lunch and naps for the kids, and then we had one more little adventure, before I left the following morning to continue my detour-laden drive up the coast.

a 4

Behind the farm, there was a dirt road, and this led to another exciting find.

a 5

Horsies!

a 6

Or is that horseys?

a 7

Either way, you know how I feel about horses.

a 8

Any day that you get to pet some horses is a good day.

a 9

I also spotted a Peregrine Falcon as we walked back to the car.

a 10

I didn’t think he would sit there for long, so I didn’t change the lens on my camera to the zoom lens.

a 11

But, thanks to the huge size at which my camera saves the photos, I just cropped a bunch of the photos off, and it looks like I did use the zoom lens.

More fun with filters and a San Francisco sunset…

imageedit_3_5804300263

Here are a few simple digital filters, used with this photo…

a 1

I took that photo on my recent trip to the Bay Area for Christmas.

imageedit_4_3100805532

I am a big fan of this easy-to-do form of digital art.

imageedit_2_8094495255

You never know how they will turn out. That is a wave made out of a sunset, a city skyline, and some water.

imageedit_5_6203459199

The starry sky effect is sort of cool.

imageedit_6_5656550060

And I like that one… but my favorite is always the ‘groovy rainbow’ filter…

imageedit_7_3108565941

Oh yeah… groovy…

Detours: A California adventure… part 11; More of that old farm…

a 1

I can’t remember the name of the old farm that my big cousin and I took my two little cousins to…

a 2

I know it is near the coast, just off Highway One, about ten miles North of Santa Cruz.

a 3

And I know it was a great place to take kids.

a 4

They had some old farm equipment.

a 5

My littlest cousin liked the old tractor.

a 6

Sorry about the window reflection. I tried to take some pictures of some old cars in a barn.

a 7

That one came out a little better.

a 8

Like any good farm, this one had some chickens. There were also some goats, but I didn’t get a photo of them. And there were horses, but I saved those pictures for the next post.

a 9

There was also a blacksmith shop.

a 10

As most of you know, I am learning how to be a blacksmith, so this was of some interest to me.

a 11

Okay, we are almost done with the little farm.

Detours: A California adventure… part 9; Aloe caves, two small boys, and a really big tree…

a 1

My two little cousins, exploring an aloe cave.

a 2

After our little jaunt down to the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean near Santa Cruz in Northern California, my cousins and I walked to a lovely old farm. In front of the farm were the biggest Aloe plants I have ever seen.

a 3

I have some aloe plants in my back yard in San Diego. They are less than one-foot-tall…

a 4

These aloe plants tower over twenty feet in height, and you can go right inside them.

a 5

I have never seen anything like it. I mean, not with aloe plants. And the people who run this historic old farm even go to the trouble of removing the sharp, curved thorns that run down the side of each aloe leaf, at least to the level that they would rip little kids apart.

a 6

Man, me and the cousins had fun!

a 7

I might have to move my aloe plants to the middle of my yard when they get a little bigger, and make me some aloe caves!

a 8

Aloe is also very useful. If you get a burn, you can snip off a bit of an aloe leaf, and rub the clear, jelly-like sap onto the burn. It soothes the pain and helps the burn heal.

a 9

Ain’t nature wonderful?

a 10

I suggest we all plant some aloe.

a 11

But the aloe plants weren’t the only remarkable thing growing at this quaint old farm.

a 12

There was also a great big tree, that was not only the perfect tree for a kid to climb in, but its canopy grew over the trunks like a giant circus tent.

a 13

Inside, it was like a cool, green grotto.

a 14

This is the tree every kid is looking for.
a 15As long as we are focusing on plants, I think my next post will be a bunch of photos of the flowers that were growing around this farm… you know, just for you people who are living under 6 feet of snow right now.
