The adventure… part 10; Miles and miles of billions of birds…

Man, there are a lot of birds on the California coast. Like that crazy seagull that was swooping at my face.

There are pelicans.

And cormorants.

And more pelicans.

And nesting gulls that aren’t trying to headbutt you.

And little black birds that, judging by their eyes, are related to flamingos.

Bird condos.

Moro Bay had pelicans, gulls and cormorants all mixed together, right near those otters.

It is something to see when they all go fishing.

There are turkey vultures.

Seriously, billions of gulls.

Cormorants are interesting birds. You should Google them.

There are chickens.

There are geese.

And, of course, ducks.

The adventure… part 9; Miles and miles of me!!!

Because the only thing better than a photo of a beautiful place is a photo of a beautiful place with me stuck in front of it!

To the person who invented selfies: I salute you!

HA!

No, there is no funny story behind any of these.

I was on an adventure, and I am self-absorbed.

And shameless.

And it’s my blog.

So… me!

Lots of me.

With, you know, stuff in the background, I suppose.

Wait… that isn’t me. I can see why I got confused, but, uh, sorry about that.

Much better. Maybe.

The adventure… part 8; Miles and miles of mammals…

Oh yeah, we are going to see elephant seals.

And not just the fighting bulls, but females and pups too.

Coyotes on the Pebble Beach golf course. It pays to get up early.

I still have boatloads of pictures of rafts of otters.

And ground squirrels.

They are pretty cute.

And horses! Both regular size, like this one, and miniature, like the one I already showed you.

And dogs! I got to sleep with those two… no… not like that, you freek! I will tell that story later.

Baby deer!

And regular seals.

And let’s not forget this guy, that I got to feed. I touched a rhino, and I liked it!

And that adorable zebra that me and Mollie got to pet.

And, of course, me. Lots of me. I am a mammal too.

The adventure… part 7; Well, I am sort of doing this in chronological order… almost…

Wait… that one is out of order… but cute. So, I am on day 5 of the adventure, and now we are going back to day 2, the day after the zoo part, but also some from day 3. Got it?

I am just not an ‘in order’ kind of a guy.

Anyway, day one, zoo adventure. Day two, visiting my cousins on my way north from San Diego, and spending some quality time with small children.

I haven’t seen this little one since she was a baby.

Stupid pandemic.

But we had an awesome day together.

A random flower picture from as we wandered around.

I left their house near Los Angeles very early, heading to the coast, and on the way, I met this little lady. So this is day 3 now.

I know, she looks like a normal-sized horse.

But she is a tiny miniature horse. And she came right over when she saw me, because, you know, dogs babies and horses love me.

I ended up in Solvang, an adorable little Danish town.

I had an awesome breakfast.

I saw the mission. We know Solvang well. My wife has an aunt who lives there, and we have visited a few times.

But my favorite part was making a new friend.

Oh yeah. And I was on my way to Morro Bay, which is where I saw the otters and a bunch of other stuff… which we will get to soon. But right now, on day 5, I need to get going and head towards the Bay Area. I have been up since 5 AM, and I have already got some great pictures. HA!

The adventure… part 6; It isn’t going to be all wild animals…

Yes, I have seen some amazing animals on my adventure so far, but there will be other things…

There will be flowers.

And maybe some interesting vehicles.

And lots of pictures of the California coast.

I mean lots.

Seriously.

And I promised you cute kids, like my little cousin.

And there will be art.

And animals that are really art.

And animals that aren’t real, like that spikey punk-shark.

And did I mention the coast of California?

And selfies, tons of selfies, because: me!!!

The adventure… part 5; I am pretty sure flamingo eyes are the doorway to Satan’s realms…

They are an orb of weird yellow glass, with a flaw in the center, a black hole that is the peephole to the dark void.

Other than that, having a bunch of free range flamingos wandering around you is a hoot.

On the other hand, they move like freekin’ velociraptors. Not as fast, but still.

But feeding them by hand is fun.

Awwww. Look at the sweet little zebra. Her tail has a braid pattern!

Just like a little horse with a fancy paint job. Hey, horses love me.

Maybe zebras love me too.

They do!!!

They love my daughter Mollie too.

I am just good with animals.

The adventure… part 4; Where the heck am I???

I mean, I know where I am physically. This is why I hate doing an adventure series of posts in order. It is like time traveling. I am, in real life, drinking coffee in a hotel room on the central California coast.

This is the start of the fourth day of my adventure, but only the third that I am actually traveling.

Which explains why we are looking at pictures of a Binturong from that animal experience my family got me as a father’s day gift, at the San Diego zoo.

So much has happened since we saw that giant African porcupine.

And I do mean giant. Look at those spines.

I guess I could show less photos from earlier in the trip, but you know I never waste photos, especially of animals.

So we will time jump like Dr. Who.

And we will press on.

Oh yeah, into the weird unknown future.

Hey, they said the flamingos sometimes groomed people I wanted to get groomed by a flamingo. Don’t judge me.

The adventure… part 3; It all started, like most adventures do, with a Tasmanian Devil…

I decided to try doing this adventures in chronological order, sort of, for now. And it all started at the world famous San Diego Zoo.

Which is a pretty fun place to go on an average day.

Because you never know what you might see.

Like a cheetah who has a best friend who happens to be a dog

That is pretty cool, right?

Look how happy she is.

And of course we saw an orangutan snuggling with a burlap sack.

I might try to carve something like one of those.

And I was with my daughter Mollie, so that was awesome.

I will tell you more when we get to the next part.

The adventure… part 2; Encounters with wild animals…

I guess we already covered the fact that I fed a rhino. I am on day 2-and-a-half of my adventure, typing this from somewhere on the California coast.

On top of touching a rhino, I also petted a zebra.

And was eyeball to eyeball with a bunch of flamingos with nothing between us but a plastic cup full of moist dog food.

I made friends with a tiny horse.

And spent some quality time with my smallest cousin… and her two brothers… in their wild natural environment.

I saw a whole lot of sleepy otters.

A seagull played chicken with my face.

I bonded with my younger daughter.

I tamed the ferocious ground squirrel.

And I charmed this savage beast.

More stories, details and photos to follow.

Bye.
