Reflecting upon nature… part 1…

I know, these are silly. But I like doing them.

Some random photos of San Francisco while I tell you what I have coming up…

a 1

So, yeah, I’m back at my mom’s house in the Bay Area once again. I took a few photos down at that dog park I like to go to.

a 2

I brought two novels with me, one to start editing… even though I suck at editing. If I could edit, I wouldn’t have made any mistakes while I wrote them… and one to continue writing so I can finish it finally.

a 3

In fact, if any of you are interested in editing… I mean, I can’t pay you, but you get a signed copy of the book sent to you, and a very nice mention on the credits page, and a blog post singing your praises… let me know.

a 4

I am editing on the fourth book of my action/humor science fiction series; The Otherwhere Chronicles. I am also beginning work again on a novel I started way back when I was in my twenties.

a 5

It is titled; How Thick The Blood That Binds Us… (I know, right?)

But that isn’t the exciting part. I think I am going to start posting chapters of one or both of those books. For a while, at least… to see if anybody is actually still reading the words here. Ha!

Dogz and firemenz…

a 1

My mom had stuff to do today, so I went down to my favorite dog park to make some new friends. And yes, that paw really is as big as it looks like it is.

a 2

There is nothing like a really big, really sweet dog.

a 3

I met lots of cool dogs. And you can’t beat the view from this particular dog park.

a 4

Yup.

a 5

I am still trying to capture that one perfect image of a dog shaking water off itself.

a 6

I know it will happen sooner or later.

a 7

That one has some pretty good tail drips. But i want that one photo where the dog’s face is all flapping around, and the dog is surrounded by a cloud of small water droplets, that the sun is catching just right so they all sparkle like little diamonds.

a 8

SQUIRREL!!!

a 9

The sun was too high today. Totally wrong angle.

a 10

But you never really know until you get home and look at the photos on a good screen.

a 11

On the way back to my mom’s house from the dog park, I stopped to get some groceries. And in the parking lot of the little mall, the local firemen were having a little street fair that included this demonstration of how they can take a car apart in order to save someone trapped inside.

a 12

They had the windows out and the doors off in no time.

a 13

By the time I came back out of the store just a few minutes later, the car had been dismantled, then stacked back together to make it easier to haul away.

a 14

I made the joke that I was going to post these photos on my blog with a caption that read: ‘Never lock your keys in your car and ask the local firemen for help.’ They thought this was funny. We all started to give suggestions for other captions…

‘Never park your car in the handicapped space.’

‘Never leave your dog locked in your car on a hot day.’

‘Hey, we told you to get off the cell phone while you were driving.’

‘You should really pull over when you hear the siren.’

There were more. It was fun.

Yeah, I know, it’s another sunset… from my mom’s house…

a 1

No, it isn’t the best view in the Bay Area.

a 2

You can only see parts of the bay, and you can’t see anything of San Francisco or the Golden Gate Bridge, like you can from other parts of the big ridge on which the house I grew up in sits.

a 3

The sun has moved Northward, so it isn’t setting behind that grove of trees like it was the last time I was here.

a 4

Which kind of puts the sunset right behind the giant oak tree in front of the house. (I do like to take photos with multiple layers of leaves or flowers, and just see what the camera decided to focus on).

a 5

But what I like about these sunset pictures is this…

a 6

I don’t have to drive… or even walk… anywhere. Unless you count going out on the deck or up to the top level of the backyard, like I did for that photo up there.

a 7

Okay, I do have to either ignore or shoot through the phone lines and power wires… or crop them out of the picture.

a 8

But these are perfect when I am feeling lazy. And, as you saw in an earlier post, I never know what kind of wildlife will be waiting for me right outside.

A purloining possum and a robbing raccoon…

a 1

I was delighted to see this little guy, a very young possum, outside my mom’s windows last night.

a 2

He was helping himself to some cat food in the backyard.

a 3

Hence the clever name of this post.

a 4

It was a nice change of pace from the raccoons that usually come to steal the cat food…

a 5

But then I saw a few of them later, out of the front deck.

a 6

This one was deciding whether to scamper away into the big oak tree, or go back for a second helping.

a 7

A possum might not have a raccoon’s good looks.

a 8

But I still think they are sort of cute.

Yup, I’m back in the Bay Area!

a 1

I took my mom up the the Berkeley hills.

a 2

I took these photos from that spot you might remember from our trip to the Bay Area not long ago when we saw Hamilton. We also saw the smoke rising from across the bay while we waited to go on that awesome rocket boat ride.

a 3

This is the view from beside those lovely trees that almost burned in that fire. You can still smell the burnt area.

a 4

But my favorite trees were spared, and the view is still lovely.

a 5

It was a close thing.

a 6

We tried to do some bird watching, but the birds were not cooperating.

a 7

So we went and had lunch.
