Don’t be just one of the herd…

In unrelated news: I figured out how to get those annoying little Bitmoji things from that phone app onto my computer, so you are all going to be driven crazy with little cartoon versions of me for a while… HA!

a 1

Also, there was another nice sunset at work last night.

IMG_1888

Ans, I got me a sweet new ride for work…

IMG_1891

Oh yeah…

IMG_1892

And I have to admit…

IMG_1894

I had no idea how fast they could go.

IMG_1897

Does this convex mirror make me… and my golf cart… look fat?

IMG_1899

So much fun.

What do some photos of the San Francisco Bay have to do with my new job?

a 1

Well, mostly they are here because I still have some photos I took when I was there at Christmas, but there is a tie-in or two.

a 2

Firstly, there is the ever present irony of the fact that when you are working, you have more money for traveling… but not time to do it. Especially when you change a career path and start over with vacation time.

a 3

Also, I work the swing shift and don’t get off work until midnight… and some of these pictures are sunsets… and they also work the swing shift.

a 4

And, when I am at work, I sometimes think about the Bay Area.

a 5

My new uniform… without the gold badge, which makes me even more impressively handsome.

a 6

That is the view from the rear of the huge pharmaceutical research firm I help keep safe.

a 7

And see, it is foggy and sprinkling, which happens a lot in the Bay Area… but not nearly as much in San Diego.

a 8

Last night, when I took the two rainy foggy photos on my phone, was my first night at my new gig.

a 9

But I am assuming… when it isn’t foggy and drizzly… that there will be sunsets at work, too.

Try to guess which of these are human food and which are pet food… yes… I know I said I wasn’t going to do anymore silly guessing games with the digital microscope I got for Christmas, but you don’t have to guess what kinds of food they are… just what kind of mammal eats them…

You don’t really have to guess. Here is what I looked at up close…

a 10

My wife is now making homemade sourdough bread from starter. So just about every other picture above is of that… except for the one of some store-bought whole wheat bread… and the two shades of little dog bones… and a dog training nibble treat… and a cat treat… and I didn’t take notes, so I am not sure which are which either. HA!

Okay, I swear, these are the last pictures of that Osprey I saw… but come on… I saw a freekin’ Osprey!!!

a 1

And he saw me, evidently. Sorry that one is a little blurry, but I used a telephoto lens, and then cropped the photo down to just that face.

a 2

He… or she… was up on top of a light pole by a sports field.

a 3

Also he… or she… was on that light pole in the distance, keep two very watchful eyes on the nest in the pole in the foreground.

a 4

If you look closely, you can see a little baby head in that picture.

a 5

I say he or she because I am pretty sure that nesting pairs of osprey both help raise the chicks.

a 6

Feel free to Google that.

a 7

Anyway, they are spectacular birds, and I wasn’t going to waste any of the photos, even if you got a little bored. I tried to break it up with some other stuff.

a 8

Oh, one other thing…

a 9

Did anybody notice the fish tail in any of those earlier photos… because they do eat fish.

a 10

Oh yeah they do.

Feeling blue… and green… and purple… and some other colors…

a 1 copy

Okay, this is just an excuse to post a few more of those photos I took from the Berkeley Hills that night over Christmas vacation when I went up there with my mom to see the sun set over the San Francisco Bay.

a 1

I will post the unaltered pictures after the ones I played with in Photoshop.

a 2 copy

I just like to play with the color filters.

a 2

It jazzes things up a little bit.

a 3 copy

Not that a sunset over San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge needs much spicing up.

a 3

But it never hurts to add… or change… a few colors in a post.

a 4 copy

Anyway, I have been pretty busy.

a 4

I just changed jobs… well, not really jobs, but who I work for and where I work.

a 5 copy

I start at the new place in the next few days.

a 5

But we can get to that later.

a 6 copy

For now, this is what you get.

a 6

So deal with it!

And then, right in the middle of that big seagull riot… this happened…

a 1

As I was filming the great ‘bag of bread war’ between that flock of seagulls… the one I shared with you the other day… I noticed these two mallard ducks swoop calmly over the fracas.

a 2

They made a nice splashdown in Mission Bay.

a 3

They cruised sedately towards the shore.

a 4

And then proceeded to waddle up the sand in my direction, the male still following the female.

a 5

They strolled up onto the grass, still ignoring the swarm of angry gulls fighting over the bag of bread just a few yards away.

a 7

They walked by, very close to where I sat on a cement picnic table.

a 8

Female mallards, as with many bird species, are not as colorful as the males.

a 9

But that is neither here nor there.

a 10

They ended up sitting in the shade, not too far behind me, as I continued to photograph the gulls going crazy.

a 11

And did I mention the osprey I saw, not far from this very spot?

a 12

I am pretty sure I did.

More shore birds, for sure… (or): Let’s see some sea birds???

a 1

I still have some pictures left from my work trip down to Mission Bay in San Diego.

a 2

I know, I live in San Diego, but I had to drive down to the beach to do some work…

a 3

Look, it doesn’t really matter…

a 4

I brought my camera…

a 5

I took some photos of some birds…

a 6

And I have been sharing them with you…

a 7

And one of those birds was an osprey, so…

a 8

And I say that any day where you see a cool, big, hunting bird is a good day.

a 9

Also, it was a lovely day, down by the bay…

a 10

Considering it is winter and all…

a 11

Man… those eyes…

a 12

That bird was aware of everything within a mile of where it was.

Mine! mine! mine! mine!… (or); Nature in the wild is seldom mild, as my mother always says… part 2…

a 1

The struggle over the loaf of bread has become a tussle…

a 2

It has passed the scrap phase and is building towards being a fracas… or maybe even a fray…

a 3

The scrimmage has become a scrum…

a 4

The scuffle is now a tussle…

a 5

The affray has risen to the level of a brawl…

a 6

Uh oh… one of the gulls picked up the bag containing the loaf of bread and then dropped it down by the bay…

a 7

But the dust-up continues, unabated…

a 8

The ruckus resumes…

a 9

The donnybrook is not done…

a 10

The melee moves into the bay…

a 11

It is now a splashy spat… a soaked squabble…

a 12

But the row is becoming less rowdy… the tiff has turned with the tide… the free-for-all has fizzled…

a 13

That is because, as you can see in the center of this photo, the bag of bread has slipped beneath the waters…

a 14

There are no winners in a war!

Mine! mine! mine! mine!… (or); Nature in the wild is seldom mild, as my mother always says… part 1…

a 1

A seagull finds the mother lode by Mission Bay in San Diego… an loaf of bread in a plastic bag.

a 2

A crow stops to watch, and maybe see if he can get in on the action.

a 3

The seagull get the bag open.

a 4

Another seagull approaches.

a 5

They are joined by another gull, and they begin to flex their muscles… which, I’m sure, would be more impressive without all those feathers in the way.

a 6

Things begin to get a little heated.

a 7

The strutting and posturing commences.

a 8

Another gull, and things escalate. It is now a full-blown brouhaha.

a 9

More gulls arrive… and some pigeons. Pigeons are the innocent bystanders of the bird world.

a 10

It becomes an actual skirmish.

a 11

One seagull makes a break for it with the entire loaf!

a 12

And it just went downhill from here. Please join me later for the exciting conclusion.
