Saying goodbye to my mom… no… she isn’t dead… we just left her in the Bay Area…

a-1

There she is, that feisty ninety-something-year-old… playing our antique player piano… the cardiovascular workout of the early 1900’s… with one of the tikis I carved for her looking on, bedecked in its Christmas finery!

a-2

We spent our last night in the Bay Area playing poop games, given as Christmas gifts, and drinking… because that is how the Brownes roll!!!

a-3

While my wife, younger daughter, her boyfriend, and Uncle Sid were at a 49ers football game on that last day, I drove down to the bay for a few last pictures.

a-4

Now that is a proper background for the Golden Gate!

a-6

A gratuitous picture of a bird, because I had the zoom lens on.

a-7

I hope you have enjoyed all these posts about our latest adventure in the Bay Area. I shared our bizarre double Christmas ritual, three days of sightseeing in San Francisco, our godson, a science museum, a day trip to Berkeley, animals, food, and fun.

a-8

There will just be a few more posts of some artsy pictures I took in San Francisco, just for you… because I am artsy… and I was in San Francisco…

a-9

And then I can get back to making fun of Mr. Trump… (at least until I get locked up in a camp somewhere)… and… ummmm… doing whatever else it is that I do around here… which is whatever the hell the crack squirrels that live in my brain tell me to do!

One last Bay Area sunset…

a-1

We are nearing the end of yet another adventure to the Bay Area…

a-2

On the way back to my mom’s house from Berkeley, we stopped at the Berkeley marina.

a-3

Looking at San Francisco from across the bay is always fun, especially after you just spent three days touring the crap out of.

a-4

The statue that I helped make is still there. That thing is like 20 feet tall. I am sure I did a post about it somewhere.

a-5

You could try typing: ‘lion statue’ into the search bar thingy.

a-6

I hope you have enjoyed our Christmas adventures.

a-7

I know I did.

a-8

That is a pretty big ship headed out past the Golden Gate.

a-9

Okay, see you soon, for the last couple of posts about all this.

Berkeley… part 2…

a-1

Growing up in the Bay Area during the 60’s and 70’s, I may… maybe… know a little about the drug culture… Now, all of a sudden, one of those drugs is legal. My wife and I took our 17-year-old daughter and her 18-year-old boyfriend into a place that sold supplies for the usage of substance in question…

a-2

Yeah, it was like walking into any other kind of store. For some reason, the fact that it is no longer associated with an illegal substance makes the whole thing sort of boring.

a-4

There are a few new gadgets, some electronic devices that they didn’t have when I was a rebellious kid… but for the most part, things are pretty much the same.

a-5

I guess we will just have to see if I am going to take advantage of the new laws… but if I do, maybe I will share that with you too.

a-6

But it is funny how much time and money the cops used to spend, busting people with small amounts of weed… pot, dope, buds, smoke, ganja, grass, whatever the cool kids called it back in your day.

a-7

A few quick shots of some wall art…

a-8

A mural that pays tribute to Berkeley’s past as a center of cultural change…

a-9

A reminder of a turbulent time when there was a revolution to try to change the way society works.

a-10

Let’s hope we don’t have to go through that again… Trump… I’m looking at you…

Berkeley… part 1… (Or): I see dead people!

a-1

These figurines were actually in the front window of a head shop… or at least that is what the cool kids used to call stores that sold ‘smoking supplies’.

a-2

There are a lot of these places in Berkeley… still… and what with marijuana being legalized in California, I doubt they will be going anywhere soon. And some of these were around when I was a teenager.

a-3

But hey, we had to take Mollie’s boyfriend to Berkeley while we were in the Bay Area, didn’t we?

a-4

Okay, that guy on the right is just ironic, in light of the recent election.

a-5

I always find these little works of art to be charming.

a-6

I have one or two more posts of our adventure in Berkeley, but we are nearing the end of the latest Bay Area saga.

Some tasty Italian treats…

a-1

Oh… whoops… maybe I shouldn’t have led of with that picture following the title… I wouldn’t want you to get the wrong idea…

a-2

What I mean to say is that, on the way back from Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, we stopped in Little Italy for dinner…

a-3

And the place where we ate had an awesome collection of reproductions of art, most of which I am pretty sure I saw when I was in Rome.

a-4

I also took another picture of Coit Tower as the sun was setting.

a-5

But I really like the art that was hanging on the restaurant walls.

a-6

And these were large pieces… of art, I mean… In fact, I was worried about the weight if there was an earthquake.

a-7

But, if you look very closely at the edge of the piece on the very left of that picture above, you will see where some of the coating has cracked off. These copies of ancient, classical and renaissance art are just made of foam, with a layer of fake marble sprayed on at the end.

a-8

I wish I knew where they were made. That would be a fun and inexpensive way to decorate your house.

a-9

And it was a fun place to eat.

a-10

I took a quick photo of the church before we caught an uber car back to the BART station and headed back to my mom’s house on the other side of the bay. That is just about it for the San Francisco portion of our trip… with a few more ‘artsy’ shots saved for the very last post. We saw a lot of the city in three days, and I tried to share some of the feel of it with you.

The last photos of our adventure in Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco…

a-1

I know, we are already back in San Diego. I fell a little behind, but only because we did so many cool things while we were in the Bay Area.

a-2

I hope you enjoyed this part of our adventure… the sea lions, the food, the cute dogs, the street performers and artists, the history of an interesting part of a fascinating city.

a-3

Even the old electric buses that run on tracks and are powered by overhead power lines are pretty to look at.

a-4

San Francisco is full of little surprises like that.

a-5

You just need to keep your eyes open.a-6

There is the Richmond Bay Bridge, that we took to the city on our first day of adventuring.

a-7

And there is the Oakland Bay Bridge, our route to San Francisco on the second day of fun, hiding behind some masts. You should Google the construction of the new part of the bridge. It is another classic example of how the republicans screw the people of this country in any way they can get away with.

a-8

Coit tower and the tip of the Transamerica building.

a-9

I hope you enjoyed these. We have one more stop to make, for dinner in Little Italy, as we made our way back across the bay to my mom’s house. Then, a brief foray into Berkeley, and a few other things, before we wrap this trip up.

a-10

8 years of letting nothing get done, and what’s the first thing Republicans do?

Get rid of ethical oversight. You shameless asswipes.

I am safely back home… you can all relax…

a-1

You know who is good at relaxing? The sea lions that live beside Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. They used to sleep on the docks used by the fishing boats and the ones for people who own their own boats, but now they have their own little floating docks, put there just for them.

a-2

Why is there always that one jerk, climbing over everybody else, biting and making noise?

a-3

Seriously… just simmer down.

a-4

That is the face of a sea lion that just got woken up by the jerk.

a-5

After a nap, you need to stretch…

a-6

And have a good scratch.

a-1

Oh yeah… that’s the spot…

a-2

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz………..

It’s time to say goodbye to the Bay Area… wait, I mean, me, not you… you still have a bunch of pictures to look at…

a-1

Goodbye, San Francisco… I will miss you, as always.

a-2

Goodbye, Golden Gate… it is time once again for that long drive through California’s central valley, then the slog through Los Angeles and the annoying traffic… just to get to San Diego.

a-3

You should get lots of sleep… because we aren’t done with this adventure yet.

a-4

Oh no, not by a long shot. HA! See what I did there? It is a photograph taken with a zoom lens, which is also called… oh, forget it.
