Some animals I met while in the Bay Area…

b 1

So, I took my mom down to the bay, to that park where I go because of the view and the fact that so many people walk their dogs there, and I can pet them when I am missing my dog. We had a picnic in the car, and then I put my mom on a bench to enjoy the sunshine. Walking back to the car, I met this nice little dog.  She belonged to a nice, elderly Asian lady who uses a walker. I petted the dog, then went to my car to get my camera.

b 2

The dog followed me and jumped in my car. Every time I opened a door to pick her up, she moved to the far side of the car. Maybe it was the smell of French fries, but I think she just liked me.

b 3

I met a very nice turkey when I went to visit my friend’s memorial tree.

b 4

I saw a goose.

b 5

What the heck is that, on the top of that redwood tree near my mom’s house?

b 6

Oh, a red tail hawk!

b 7

Thanks, zoom lens!

b 8

And of course, as always, I saw some deer from my mom’s deck. In fact, I almost ran into one in my car on the way to the Berkeley Rose Garden.

b 9

And I also met that busy little bee.

This is still funny… I guess…

No, that isn’t a sunset, that is a sunrise, I said I was done with sunsets…

a 1

I took these in the Central Valley of California on my way back to San Diego from the Bay Area.

a 2

I had already been driving for nearly three hours before the sun came up.

a 3

I even pulled over at a vista rest area just to get a few pictures of the moon as it set in the opposite side of the sky.

a 4

You’re welcome.

a 5

Not only did I get some good photos, but, thanks to my crazy early morning starts, I missed traffic in both the Bay Area and Los Angeles. You know how hared it is to drive through LA without hitting traffic?

a 6

We are almost at the end of the posts about my latest journey to the Bay Area.

a 7

I hope you enjoyed them.

a 8

I had a great time… except for the funeral thing.

a 9

I have one more post coming about some animals… and speaking of animals, the crack squirrels are running around up there in my head trying to decide what to write, and what funny Photoshop pictures to do, that will adequately capture the absurdity and scariness of Trump firing the guy who is investigating him for conspiring with the Russians… the day before he meets with the Russian ambassador… so… yeah.

a 10

We will just have to see how that comes out.

The very last sunset photos from my mom’s house… I mean, until I go back again…

a 1

I am back in San Diego now. I did my ‘getting up obscenely early to beat the traffic in the Bay Area and Los Angeles’ thing, so I have a few more photos of that to share tomorrow, as well as some funny animal pictures I took.

a 2

Here are four photos I took from my mom’s deck overlooking the San Francisco bay. Two were taken on one night, and two on another night. I mixed them up, so even I don’t know which are which.

a 3

You may have been wondering why all the photos taken from the house where I grew up tend to look similar.

a 4

It is because of the stupid power and phone lines. That and the fact that there are lots of trees… including the big oak in my mom’s front yard, all covered with a huge Cecil Brunner  rose bush, that block most of the view of the bay. So I usually use a zoom lens and shoot under the wires and over the trees and house roofs.

Thank you for the sunset…

a 1

Why, you may well be asking, am I thanking you for this sunset?

a 2

Well, let me tell you. It is because I am a naturally lazy person, and if it wasn’t for you, I might not have left my mom’s house last night and driven up into the Berkeley hills to take pictures of the sunset from one of my favorite spots in the world.

a 3

And that would have been a shame for both of us.

a 4

But because I know you like sunsets, that made all the difference.

a 5

This is why blogging is so good for me. Oooh… look… the very last second before the sun vanishes behind the mountains over across the San Francisco Bay!

a 6

Well, that and it keeps my head from exploding, and it keeps the crack squirrels up there busy so they don’t chew on the wires.

a 7

This just works out well for everybody.

a 8

So thanks again.

a 9

But I really do need to figure out how to take better pictures at night. I waited until the lights in San Francisco were coming on, but when I use the zoom lens on a long exposure, it never comes out well. I still think it looks cool, though.

It was one of those kinds of evenings…

a 1

Sunset was drawing nigh… I was sitting in my mom’s living room, where I am sitting now as I type this, trying to decide if the sunset would be worth taking pictures of from my favorite view spot way up in the Berkeley hills. The view from her deck was pretty, as you can see from these pictures.

a 2

On an evening like this, where the cloud layer is low, you can either get a great sunset from higher up, or not much of a sunset at all. But I figured, my time in the Bay Area is running short… I am leaving early tomorrow… and this was last night, if you care.

a 3

I decided to just drive up there and check it out. At first, although San Francisco was, as always, lovely to look at, the sunset didn’t hold too much promise.

a 4

It was hazy, and visibility wasn’t that good.

a 5

The colors were muted, and didn’t even show off the Golden Gate all that well.

a 6

But sometimes, the sun does marvelous things as it passes between the higher clouds and the distant mountains.

a 7

Yes, clouds can be a help or a hindrance when it comes to sunsets.

a 8

And you never know what will happen. I have a few more pictures of this sunset to post.
