Me and Mollie’s marvelous magical macro madness… the final chapter…

a 1

That is a macro photograph of my daughter’s eye that I took. As we proved in an earlier post, she has my eyes. Ironically, that means she also has an eye for art. She has Art’s eyes. Seems like there are a lot of jokes and puns I could do here.

a 2

That is the pattern on the dress Mollie wore that day, when we were playing around with my camera.

a 3

That is Mollie’s hair.

a 4

And now, some more of the shots Mollie took. A flower.

a 5

A stained glass window.

a 6

The same window. As I said earlier, I really enjoyed following her around as she took pictures. I noticed that she took a lot of shots of things I had taken earlier, when she was doing something else. Artistic minds think alike.

a 7

I took some photos of the same window… all the rest of these pictures are ones I took.

a 8

It was an awesome day with my kid. I don’t see her as much, now that she is away at college.

a 9

Moss.

a 10

Granite.

a 11

A leaf.

a 12

Wood.

a 13

Nature is magical, and interconnected. The magic is in the little pathways that tie all things together. Like passing down a love of art to your daughter. And eyes that change color.

My marvelous magical macro madness…

a 1

Just a few shots I took while my daughter Mollie and I were playing with the macro zoom lens. A simple leaf.

a 2

It turns out that moss is really just a bunch of small plants growing really close together.

a 3

Lichen on granite.

a 4

Mollie’s necklace.

a 5

One of the old railroad ties that my wife’s aunt and uncle have as a wall in their landscaping.

a 6

A part of a rusty metal yard sculpture.

a 7

Another shot of the same thing. But this one shows how small the area of focus is when you do macro photography. The camera focused just on the very back edge of the opening. This does take a little time to get good at.

a 8

Tiny baby moss on granite. Or maybe I took that with the regular lens.

a 9

Mollie’s ear.

a 10

Granite.

a 11

That might be a little spider hiding under that leaf.

a 12

Another of those tiny flowers that grow inside bougainvillea flowers.

Having some fun at work…

a 1

See, people just aren’t expecting a security officer in a monkey mask. Oh yeah!

a 2

And I had a visit from this little guy.

a 3

I named him Irving.

My daughter, Mollie, has my eyes… and now I can prove it scientifically…

a 1

That is a photo I took of my daughter’s eye. Now, through the wonder of macro photography, I can prove that she has my eyes…

a 2

That is my eye, as taken by Mollie. Yes, mine is moister. She made me keep it open in the sun while she focused. But look at the colors, the striations. Is striation the right word? I don’t know. We both have eyes that change color, depending on the light. Sometimes they are blue, sometimes green or greenish-brown.

a 3

Mollie’s eye.

a 4

My eye. I mean, I always knew she got a lot of things from me, my art and music, my incredibly deep soul. My sense of humor. My sexy legs. But this is just plain awesome!

Shootin’ nature with a Canon… part 3…

a 1

Just a few more random photos of nature.

a 2

Because, well, why not?

a 3

I go places…

a 4

I see stuff…

a 5

I take pictures of that stuff…

a 6

I show the pictures to you…

a 7

It is the circle of life.

a 8

The circle of friendship.

a 9

Ooooh… a Red-tail Hawk!

a 10

I guess he was circling. HA!

a 11

Those Native American acorn-grinding holes are very old… and circular.

a 12

So we circle back to where we began.

a 13

With some pictures…

a 14

Of some stuff.

Famous men… as famous women… part 10… tRump as Lucy and Ethel…

a 4

Oh, the pure, unadulterated… well, sort of, I mean, he is an adulterer… comedic genius of these two!!!

Famous men… as famous women… part 9… Steven Tyler as Lucy…

a 1

Okay, I don’t even know why I think that’s funny… but I do. Any other Aerosmith fans out there?

Mollie’s marvelous magical macro madness… part 2…

a 1

More super-close-up-macro-photos, taken by my daughter, Mollie. That is my eyeball.

a 2

A tennis ball.

a 3

The printing on the tennis ball.

a 4

The pattern on the side of a car tire.

a 5

Another view of my tire.

a 6

Dirt, stuck to the tread of my tire.

a 7

Stitching on an American flag.

a 8

Yay, America… and macro lenses.

a 9

A piece of lawn furniture.

a 10

More specifically, it is a folding lawn chair.

a 11

I think that is a sunflower.

a 12

And that is a tiny flower, not much bigger than the head of a pin, that is inside a bougainvillea flower.

Mollie’s marvelous magical macro madness… part 1…

a 1

While we were at my wife’s aunt and uncle’s house, north of San Diego, I followed my daughter Mollie… now in her second year of college… around, while she took some shots with my camera using the macro lens. That isn’t a starfish. It is a star sewn on an American flag.

a 2

A super-close-up of the stitching on the flag.

a 3

I think that is a big clay frog that sits on the front porch. The little hair might even be an eyelash.

a 4

The teeth on a saw.

a 5

Part of a flower.

a 6

Ummm… that might be the plastic bristles on a broom?

a 7

And that could be aunt Sharon’s straw gardening hat? I should have spent less time looking lovingly at my daughter and paid more attention to what she was taking pictures of.

a 8

But it looks like a hat to me… maybe.

a 9

That is the cool thing about macro photography.

a 10

When you get really close to things, the look different.

a 11

It is a whole new, weird world down at that level.

a 12

Like, who knew that the side of a car tire was so interesting?

Shootin’ nature with a Canon… part 2…

a 1

Just some more random photos, like that woodpecker.

a 2

And I am rather proud of my butterfly shots.

a 3

They don’t sit still for very long. You need to be quick.

a 4

The same is true of hummingbirds.

a 5

I seem to have been in a hurry. The feeder rim is more in focus that the bird. HA!

a 6

More of those old Native American acorn-grinding holes, filled with rainwater and oak leaves.

a 7

Dragonflies are really hard to get good pictures of.

a 8

A nuthatch.

a 9

Some finches.

a 10

They aren’t all in focus, but that photo has two finches, a woodpecker, and a nuthatch, all at once. I had to sit very still for a long time for that one.

a 11

A butterfly just taking flight… or butterflight. HA!

a 12

Man, I love my zoom lens.
