Opinions are not the same thing as facts… (or); Some things are true, and some things aren’t… a guide to some common misconceptions… part 3…

Vaccines work, and that is a fact. There are some strange ‘opinions’ floating around out there about vaccines. I think it started with confused overly-religious people who figured that if god wanted them or their child to die, they should just go along with it.

Then, you know, other crazy opinions – also known as paranoid delusions – began circulating. Now in the old days, these ‘rumors’ had to be passed from mouth to ear and so on. Now we have the internet. You can find something on the internet to support any opinion you have. The problem is that people read stuff on the internet and they think it is true.

Yes, there is some risk associated with vaccines. There is some risk associated with aspirin. Or taking a shower. But showers work, and so do vaccines. That is why Polio isn’t around anymore.

Think what you want, but even if the Covid vaccine does kill a handful of people, compare that to the number of people who have died of the actual virus.

Oh, and one more thing. Nobody is putting trackers in the vaccines. They already have them. In your phone. And your computer. They can watch you from satellites. You tell all your friends where you are going and where you have been on Facebook.

If they wanted to implant trackers, they would put them in Big Macs.

Droning on… part 6… the ‘Cops’ variant…

Yes, I know, this is completely ridiculous. But I am leading up to something better… eventually.

Droning on… part 5…

Yes, I am still posting little videos I took with my first drone… the not-so-good-one, that saved video on my phone. This one is really short, but features a bouncy Garage Band tune with a 70’s feel which is perfect for aerial views of the Bay Area and the little town in the hills across the bay from San Francisco where I grew up.

Opinions are not the same thing as facts… (or); Some things are true, and some things aren’t… a guide to some common misconceptions… part 2…

The Earth is not flat. End of discussion. Oh, go right ahead and not believe it if you want to, but might I suggest getting an opinion that isn’t so easy to disprove? We have been in space. We have photos. Hell, if you go high enough in an airplane you can see the curvature.

I understand that the notion of being stuck to the outside of a huge ball hurtling through space held down by nothing but gravity is a scary notion, but this seems like an odd notion to hang on to..

I am now fully vaccinated!!!

Now, you may be wondering what that photo could possibly have to do with a vaccine, and I will get to that.

But the reason I have already gotten my two doses is that I am a private security officer, and therefore an essential worker. I got my shots at the Del Mar horse track, of all places. It is also where they do the county fair every year.

So they have all these weird buildings that are used as stables and storage most of the year, and then they fill them with all kinds of things for the few weeks of the fair.

But this vaccine distribution might just be the most efficient human endeavor I have ever been a part of.

I didn’t even have to get out of my car.

I wish everything people did worked as smoothly as this did.

Droning on… part 4…

Well, I tried to post some audio from my podcast and WordPress wouldn’t work with me. Let’s see if this video with music track, from me still learning to fly my first drone in my mom’s backyard in the Bay Area works…

Opinions are not the same thing as facts… (or); Some things are true, and some things aren’t… a guide to some common misconceptions… part 1…

Hey, this is America. You are absolutely free to believe whatever you want to believe. That being said, an opinion is not the same thing as a fact. You can have an opinion and it can be wrong, no matter how much you want it to be true.

In this series, we will discuss some issues that people have strongly-held beliefs on, and try to determine which of these beliefs are wishful thinking and which are actual facts.

I know this series will upset some people. Thinking that I suck is a perfectly valid opinion to have. That doesn’t automatically mean that I suck. I mean, I’m not saying you are wrong, just that it is your opinion, but might not be a fact.

Let’s start off with a simple one.

Dinosaurs never existed at the same time as any version of mankind that walked upright. That is an actual fact. People never rode around on dinosaurs. They didn’t have pet dinosaurs. But dinosaurs were real. All those bones of dinosaurs in museums are not a hoax.

I can understand how a literal interpretation of the bible makes this hard to accept. I fully support your freedom to think the Earth is much younger than it is. I support your desire to fit dinosaur bones into whatever timeline you choose, or rationalize them into any form of thought that makes you feel comfortable.

You can have any opinion on dinosaurs that makes you feel happy.

The rest of us are stuck with those stupid old facts.

Droning on… part 3…

Okay, here it is, the final part of my first drone flight, the Christmas before last, with my first drone… the cheap one… with Jason, my son-in-law helping me. Notice I am still wearing the one-piece plaid Christmas jammies I just got… with the cool stripey hood.

Once again, the Garage Band music makes up for the horrible video quality. That, and the smile on my face.
