What did I do yesterday??? I went back in time…

We went to see a little civil war reenactment in Vista, California yesterday, and I got recruited by the Richmond Howitzers.

I have actually been thinking about joining one of these reenactment groups for quite a while, but I was worried about spending a lot of money on it. The rifles alone cost about $800.00 dollars. But guess what…

If you join the artillery, you don’t have to buy a rifle.

And I got to fire a cannon… not one of the replicas… a cannon that fought in the civil war… I had to give up my camera and all my other modern possessions for the afternoon, but Uncle Bert took a bunch of pictures and he is emailing them to me later. Hopefully he got one of me firing the cannon during the battle.

Oh, and he used my camera to take a few pictures of some tall guy…

I made a new friend yesterday…

Oh… sorry… wait… you got a little something in your teeth… and that really isn’t a good picture…

There she is, my new buddy. I had to get up at four in the morning to drive my youngest daughter to church camp in the mountains East of LA.

On the way home I stopped and made friends with this lovely horse… you know how I am about horses…

Okay, that picture just cracks me up.

I know I go on about how organized religion drives me crazy, so it may surprise you to learn that both my daughters are or were very active in youth leadership in a church.

But this is one of those Christian churches that doesn’t judge people or marginalize people.

As I was leaving, I think my new friend looked a little sad to see me go.

But maybe that was just because of the apple I gave her… who knows?

Oh you… you dear, sweet, just-slightly-evil horde of loveable little varmints. I know our plans of world conquest are taking longer than we thought. When I first set out to be the supreme overlord of this and all other universes utilizing an insidious and all-powerful evil empire… (also known as my humor blog)… and began to recruit an army of diabolical minions… (which WordPress insists on burdening with the demeaning title of ‘followers’)… I figured, hey, how long can it take before the entirety of all living things willingly bow down before me and lets me fix all their problems with love and understanding… a week? Two at the most?

Well, it has been closer to two years… dang it… but we haven’t given up. We are still slowly growing… spreading our web of control over the… uh… web of information.

Okay, I will admit that we do not really have a secret lair in a hollow volcano. And we do not have a giant red eye that can see everything that goes on in the world. But we do have that nifty bunker I dug in the backyard… and a telescope… and now, if I come down with a really bad case of pink eye…

Well, dammit, you have to admit that comes pretty darn close…

Even more shameless self-promotion…

I just went into a little custom T-shirt shop near my house and ordered a shirt with this original design…

I had it printed on a white shirt, so that is just about what it will look like. I threw in characters from both my action/humor science fiction series and from my illustrated children’s book… and I even stuck me in there… you know, because I am the hero of The Otherwhere Chronicles… well, not this me, that other me in that other dimension.

When people do ask me about my books, I can give them that new business card that I showed you in that post earlier today.
