And now for something completely random…

a 1

I made three new friends at work.

a 2

They are still pretty young, venturing out for their first time alone. Usually mom is with them.

a 3

They don’t even know enough to stay away from strange-looking humans.

a 4

My older daughter, Jessica, the one we just visited in New York, has started doing weekend dog fostering. If that works out, maybe she will see if she can keep a hamster alive… then… grandchildren?

New York City… day 3… part 7… Central Park…

a 1

I have to admit, Central Park is amazing, and I have seen a lot of nature in my time.

a 2

It isn’t nearly as crowded and full of junkies as I thought it might be.

a 3

A bride and her new husband. That is a nice piece of social commentary there. She is rushing on ahead, while he struggles to move all the baggage, and they are moving towards a garbage truck. Hey, simmer down, I didn’t invent social commentary.

a 4

You can almost forget you are surrounded by a huge city.

a 5

Squirrel!!!

a 6

I just realized that I have to start posting photos of my Christmas adventures soon, and we are still doing this New York thing.

a 7

Swirly rock!!!

a 8

My wife and I were there just in time for the Fall colors.

a 9

Oh, right, Fall, not Summer. That explains why it wasn’t too crowded. We were also there while they were setting up for the New York Marathon.

a 10

Colors!!!

a 11

I like colors.

a 12

How about you?

New York City… day 3… part 6… Day at the museum…

a 1

The title is a play on the fact that the Natural History Museum in New York City is where they shot a lot of the scenes from the movie Night At The Museum, and the follow up movies. We didn’t spend a day there. Just a few minutes.

a 2

Yes, I am still doing posts about our 3-and-a-half-day adventure in New York. Our daughter… the older one… had to work our last day there. We had a lot to see, but she suggested we at least go into the lobby of the museum.

a 3

So we did.

a 4

Who doesn’t like dinosaurs?

a 5

There is a weird statue out front.

a 6

I will get to that in a minute.

a 7

Because… dinosaurs!

a 8

That is the baby, standing by mom’s leg.

a 9

Okay, about that statue. Out past it, you can see Central Park, where we are heading next, but what is up with that horse’s tail?

a 10

I suppose that is a Native American.

a 11

And on the other side is… uh… that guy.

a 12

And in between is Teddy Roosevelt, riding a horse, leading the others to… or away… from… something?

New York City… day 3… part 5… The Dakota, where John Lennon lived and died…

a 1

John Lennon lived there. He also died there. The Dakota is right by Central Park, and we wanted to see it. It is a moving and sad place to be.

a 2

Before that, but after the Empire State Building adventure, we met our daughter, Jessica, for lunch. I told you she works near the Empire State Building, right?

a 3

I am eating a salami bagel sandwich… because… New York!

a 4

That is my action subway stance. I learned that on the BART… Bay Area Rapid Transit… when I was growing up. Also, I was a sailor, so I can stand on a moving deck.

a 5

Do not try this the first time you are on a subway, or BART. Hang onto something. If you do try it, and if someone is taking your photo, for gosh sakes, suck in your gut!

a 6

Also, is it a good idea to smile near the place where a legend was shot?

a 8

Probably not.

a 9

Okay, back soon with more New York adventures.
