Hey… I’m just asking…

Hey… I’m just asking…

I don’t mean individually, but in general, which warrior culture in history strikes you as the most awesome? There is no wrong answer. I just want to see what people think. I have given a few suggestions for the top ten list:
The Spartans- greased-up abs, cool helmets, and long, pointy spears…
The samurai- armed with the best swords ever made, superb training and a fatalistic outlook…
The vikings- like Hells Angels… but with armor, shields, swords and axes…
The ninjas- years of training, sweet gear, and stealth capabilities…
The Apaches- these guys could outrun a horse over desert terrain in an all-day footrace, and when they had a horse they didn’t like, they rode it until it died, and used it’s intestines as a water bottle… hardcore…
The Zulus- young warriors were forced to live a segregated life… away from women… until they earned the right to marry by prowess on the battlefield… sexual repression = overt aggression…
If you have any other suggestions, I would love to hear them.
I, myself, whilst being a particularly nice and funny guy, do have the capacity for being something of a bad-ass. Hey, I spent a lot of time on the wrong side of the tracks, have a big mouth, don’t know when to shut up, and have a penchant for sticking up for people who are being bullied. You may recall that I once told you the story about a time when I was in Amsterdam, and I stepped in when I saw a pimp hitting one of his girls. We were in a dark, narrow alley at the time. He walked up to me, suddenly realized that I was 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighed 230 pounds, had size 15 feet, and wasn’t backing down.
He reached inside his jacket and told me he had a gun.
I looked him right in the eyes and said: “Hey, this might be a really good time to get it out.”
To be honest, if he did have a gun, I figured I would rather wrestle him for it than try to outrun the bullets. He backed down.
I rarely let myself get really angry… I wouldn’t like me when I’m angry… but now and then, a person is behaving in a way that calls for a little confrontation. Here are two of my favorite ‘tough guy’ lines I like to use on people in those kinds of situations.

Go ahead and try it… I mean, try doing one of these little animated things… but you can try the ‘fog flicker’ ten times fast too if you want.

I took these pictures yesterday morning…

I love fog… I am a Bay Area boy, born and raised, and we know our fog.

I know that photos of trees looming in fog don’t really capture how cool it is actually being in the fog yourself…

That weird sense of isolation and mystery…

But I am sharing them anyway… and I might do something cool with a couple of them… so… yeah…

It’s fun and easy to do these weird little animation things I am always sticking in my posts. The only limit is your imagination…
This example is nothing extraordinary. I took a simple picture of some butterflies off Google, then made copies and used some of Photoshop’s filters on each of them.
Then, I opened Lunapics.com, a photo editing program that you can even use to do most of these effects and many others, and it is free to use.
To make the animations… after you complete the pictures… you just open one, then click the ‘add animation’ button in the edit menu. Then select the next picture. Remember to keep the pictures small… about 72 DPI and less than ten inches in the widest direction…
Save them to your downloads, and add them to posts as you do with any photos.
If you want some ideas, look in my sidebar… on the right, near the bottom… at the word cloud of categories called: ‘Stuff you might like’… one of the titles is called: ‘my weird moving pictures’, which I add all my little animations to when I post them.

After their visit here in San Diego with us, the headed up the coast. There they are in the Bay Area with my mom.

There are cousin Lynne and her boyfriend, Malcolm, in the redwoods. If you are ever in California, you should see the redwoods. I think this picture… which I stole off Lynne’s Facebook post… was taken in Muir woods near San Francisco.

And there is my mom on the right, with cousin Dot, in the Japanese tea gardens in San Francisco… looking sharp, ladies! After that, the intrepid travelers went on to Seattle to visit more of our family.
I miss them. I hope we get to go back to England and visit them soon, and if I do, you know I will post all about it… just like I did last year.

I guess, technically, they are graphic novels… but if you don’t know about the civil rights movement in this country, then you don’t know history.
Google them, order them, read them, and then thank me.

YAY! One person has asked for more details on how I do these… uh… whatever these ‘flicker’ things are… so I will start adding some step-by-step instructions… which will come in handy if you have Photoshop… and any interest in doing something like this.
Unfortunately, I can’t tell you how I did this one… I have no idea how the heck I did it.
All you need to know is that I am going to do more of these… and they are going to get weird…
