A bright light on a dark day…

Well, I sat down to do a simple little post about babysitting Olivia, the daughter of some friends of ours…

And I glanced up, and guess what was on the TV? Yup. Inauguration day.

And it hit me, right between the freekin’ eyes… that this sweet, innocent little girl is now going to grow up with… that guy… as the first president she is aware of.

My heart is breaking, and my stomach is in knots.

Okay, we can get to that later.

Because Olivia is cheering me up a little… and I changed the channel. She found an old skateboard with no wheels, and was using it as a bed.

And she was walking up to the end to lift the rear up… where could she have learned that?

I had her do a few poses that I am going to play with in Photoshop later… oh yeah…

I get to hang out with her again next week. That cheers me up too.

Rainy day fun…

Well, I spent the morning babysitting my little buddy, Olivia, again.

We had a lot of fun.

She likes the camera now.

In fact, she took a lot of these.

For that one, I held the camera, but she pushed the button. Now she tells me to take more pictures, then she likes to look at them.

San Diego is getting hit with 4 or 5 storms in a row, so we did some puddle splashing.

She is also working on her serious shopping face.

Because shopping is hard work.

And so is being a two-year-old.

We had a snack… and a wardrobe change… after splashy time. We may have gotten a little muddy.

Okay, maybe she was getting a little tired of the camera by the end.

And I’m not sure why she wanted me to help her move the slide into the kitchen.

Oh, Olivia… part 2…

Just a few more pictures of my little buddy, Olivia. I can’t explain all the fun things we do together, but I love that kid.

It brings me back to when I was a house daddy for my daughters, way before it became a thing. I still know how to make a kid laugh… like putting their pants on their heads…

Remember, a two-year-old is learning all the time, no matter what you are doing with them.

You are supposed to be helping with that process… all the time… even while you are both having fun.

Even when they decide to put a diaper on an electronic device…

And yes, she is still practicing the squishy face, whenever you point a camera at her.

Oh, Olivia… part 1…

That is the face of a happy kid. And no, if you are new around here, that isn’t one of my kids. My kids are 17 and 26… because I’m old… and my older daughter is getting married soon…

Babysitting Olivia, the daughter of some friends of ours, is one of my many successful money-making gigs… if you can call working for $10 an hour… below California’s minimum wage… successful.

Today, she had to show me all of her toys… even the ones I have already seen

Wait… I have to take a call…

Oh, it’s for me… again? She likes it when I answer fake emergencies on the pink phone.

We took a walk and said hello to a very nice tree. I haven’t seen Olivia since before Christmas, because her grandma was in town… undercutting my already low babysitting prices.

Yeah… I know… another crises… and another chance for me to have fake, silly conversations with fake people.
