This week in my life, according to my cellphone…

Take me to your leader!

I glanced into a small dumpster in a dark corner of a warehouse at work, and was startled by a screaming ghost.

I grew an actual potato-sized potato!

I mean, it still isn’t that big, but more on that next week.

The first of those wildflowers I planted are blooming!

I am very excited.

Is this a waiting room, or am I on The Dating Game tv show from the 70’s???

That is a pretty nice elevated view of the San Diego dump… sorry… landfill.

So, this dog right here…

Barfed up this rock.

Yeah, this dog.

A last look back; (or): I swear, these really are the very last pictures I took on that trip from San Diego to New Mexico to see my daughter start her nursing college… except for a few that I am going to do weird stuff with in Photoshop…

I learned a lot during that long, lonely drive across one corner of America.

I learned that horses still love me.

I learned that riding horses by the Rio Grande makes you feel like a real cowboy, but that as much as I love riding horses, I feel guilty about it, like I am making a new friend carry me around for no particular reason.

I learned that I have not lost my knack for horseback selfies.

I learned that I can have fun with fake cacti…

Maybe too much fun.

I learned that I still really love dogs, and they love me.

I learned, once again, that America is very big…

And very strange.

I learned that big metal dinosaurs should not drink Red Bull energy drink!

I learned that they have signs to warn you about stuff you weren’t even thinking about doing.

I learned that you can see snow and desert very close to one another.

And I learned that both snowy mountains and burning desert each have their own charms.

I learned that even a rest area beside the highway can have natural wonders…

And that you should never miss a chance to explore.

Because that is how you transform a trip into an adventure.

I learned that everyone should, at one time in their life, find themselves standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona.

Okay, see ya.

This week in my life… fone fotos… part 3…

I grew actual potatoes!

The dirt I make in my mulch bin is the best dirt ever.

My home for wayward succulents is thriving.

This week in my life… fone fotos… part 2…

No, I didn’t mount a dog head on my wall, but we will get to that later.

I made a new friend.

She hangs out with the guys at the car shop down the street where I had to get my car smogged.

She has a white heart shape on her back!

Between the last few Christmases and birthdays I have a lot of wood carving stuff now.

So I have been carving more.

I put all the tools and some wood in one tool bag.

Cats are weird.

This is how I found her last night, sprawled half on the couch and half on the table.

Caption this photo!

So far I went with:

After a long day of tv binging

I told you not to watch the dog show

Dogs could totally eat us.

Look at those teeth! That is the image that I did a mirror image of for the first photo.

Sleepy sweet monster!

This week in my life… fone fotos… part 1…

I made a bear!

My younger daughter Mollie got me a sandstone carving kit for Christmas. I finally got around to doing it.

You get a sandstone bear just cut in the outline. And a file, some little pieces of sandpaper and a small soft cloth.

You have to keep dipping the bear and the file in water while you work.

First I rounded all the edges. Then I filed two cuts for the legs.

Bare bear legs.

Little bare bear butt and the beginnings of a tail.

I cut the space between the ears and began to shape the head.

Oh yeah. Sandstone is so fun to work with. I need to do some more with it. Where can I get sandstone?

He is looking very bear-y.

The last step is to heat it with a hair drier and smear on the little wax pellet that came in the kit.

Then you buff it with the cloth.

And you have a bear! I now know that if I could get flat pieces of sandstone and a saw, I could cut animal shapes and then carve them.

I swear these are the last photos of my recent trip to New Mexico to see my younger daughter start nursing college… almost…

I don’t mean that she almost started nursing college. She did do that.

I mean I still have a few photos to do funny stuff with. I will try to wait a while. We rented an interesting little house for the week.

It had charm… and a hot tub.

My daughters, the future nurse and the alcoholic. Just kidding, Jessica.

Jessica had a birthday while we were there. We decorated cookies and rice crispy treats.

Mollie’s boyfriend made one that was supposed to look like Jessica.

She loved it. The resemblance is uncanny.

Fun and tasty.

Oh, America.

You are so silly.

And I will wrap this up with some more photos of those bizarre holes in the sandstone formations at that rest area in Arizona.

Horses…

Okay, fine, I am still posting the last photos of my recent trip to New Mexico to see my daughter Mollie start nursing college. But this day was the best day of the trip. Mollie, her boyfriend Ben, and I, on horses, beside the Rio Grande.

Mollie now shares my intense love of horses.

She is also mastering the difficult ‘horseback photography’.

Ranch dogs!

Seriously, ranch dogs!

I have already mastered horseback photography.

The Rio Grande.

To be honest, the Rio Grande is a Rio that is not so Grande, when the water is all locked up in snow in the mountains.

But it is Grande enough to drown a tumbleweed.

Ben.

Ben and Mollie.

Awww.

That picture needs more me in it.

Oh, who am I kidding… it needs all me in it!

I don’t blame you for being thirsty after lugging my ass around the high desert.
