Finish that fairy tale… Part three… Or maybe the final chapter… Because it is hard to tell if you are all busy, or if this just isn’t that good of an idea…

Once upon a time, there was a young boy who lived in the woods with his grandfather. One day, while playing in the forest, he found a very large egg. The egg was colored with purple swirls of many shades, and was almost as big as the little boy. The boy rolled the egg to his grandfather’s house and the rolled it inside and close to the fire. Before the boy’s grandfather returned from town, the boy, who was busy doing his chores, heard the egg begin to crack open…

My wife want to submit her version of the fairy tale:
When the boy ran into the room, there by the fireplace amid the broken shell of the egg, stood his mother, father and dog. They told him that his so-called grandfather was actually an evil wizard who put his parents into the egg. He also had to put his dog into the egg, because the dog kept growling at him and trying to bite him. But through the years, the wizard learned how to love, from the little boy, so when the wizard came home, they all made friends and lived happily ever after. However, the dog never did get over this experience and kept growling at the wizard, because he was a weiner dog.

He gasped as – Oh I just read Bumblepuppies story – think I’ll go with that! Couldn’t come up with a more suitable ending.

When the boy ran into the room where he left the huge egg to see what the noise was, he saw the eggshell cracked and spread on the floor and his grandfather, who must have just come home from town, standing near the fire with a whisk in hand swishing it around within a huge, black kettle. “I’m making us the biggest and best freakin’ omelette ever,” he said to his grandson.

As he watched with excitement, a piece of shell fell off the egg, and then another piece and yet another piece. The shards that had looked purple now were separated into Violet, Indigo and Blue . Soon, the egg was just a pile of broken colored shell and in the middle sat another, smaller egg, this one shades of seagreen, aquamarine, forest green – all intertwined as in the first egg. The boy went back to his chores and kept his ears peeled. Soon he heard the egg starting to crack again and he raced back to the fireplace. Once again pieces of the green shell fell off , this time to reveal a yellow and orange toned smaller egg inside. The boy swept up all these shards and as he worked he saw the various colors, and he started to realize that only one color remained unrepresented – red. Sure enough, when the egg started cracking yet again, a smaller yet even more beautiful egg all in swirling red tones appeared.

The boy wondered what would appear next. As it turned out, he didn’t have long to wait before the red egg started to crack as well. As the pieces of swirling red fell away, a small treasure chest could be seen inside. The chest was covered with a beautiful rainbow of colors, representing all the different colored eggs that had cradled it. When the final egg was in pieces, the boy could hardly contain himself thinking about what might be in the chest. But he was a bit worried, so he decided to run and get his grandfather and show him the chest. When the two returned and had checked out the chest from every angle, they examined the lock on the lid. The boy’s grandfather looked very thoughtful , told the boy to wait a moment and disappeared into his room. He returned shortly holding a very old key and told the boy a story about how his grandfather had told a tale of a mystical egg and how he had been given the key and promised that when the time came to use it he would know. So, with bated breath, the old man and the young boy tried the key in the treasure chest lock and the lock groaned open with age. Carefully they lifted the lid and gasped as the glitterng gold coins shone from within. It was full; there were millions of dollars in gold in the chest.

And that my friends is the real story behind the treasure chest of gold that is said to sit where the rainbow ends.

Suddenly the floor was flooded with an albumen mess of sticky egg white. The boy quickly grabbed a mop to swab the floor clean, when a large yellow yolk-sac floated out from between the jagged edges of the cracked-open shell. Before the little boy could react he was engulfed in yellow yolk. Later that day his grandfather returned home from town and found the boy suspended and lifeless, having drowned in the thick egg yolk. At the funeral his grandfather was consoled by a thoughtful eulogy which pointed out that his beloved grandson had died sunny-side up.

No idea why I didn’t see the other two I love a good fairy tale.

Crrrrrrrrk awwwwwk rrrrrrrrippppp one claw, two claws. Then the top of a head a very large head. It was the Monster Troll and had been released. Chomp, munch, crunch scream. My little boys, nosy little boys are so tasty. As it lumbered out of the house and into the woods it saw the grandfather. He had been a royal swordsman and fought the troll with all his might. They rolled and swiped and hollered and yelled which brought all the other villagers. The troll then ate them all one by one. There were no condiments but the troll found them quite delicious but salty which made him very thirsty. So he trundled off to find a pub to quench his thirst.

  10. … and out sprang Dick Cheney. He immediately began waterboarding all of the deer and chipmunks until a local grizzly bear got angry and ate him alive.

    Everybody lived happily ever after.

    The End

  11. I’ve passed on this one only because I haven’t been in the right mood to allow a proper ending to any of the fairytales – my endings would have all been sarcastic and/or morbid. Now, if you were to offer the start of a horror story ….
