Well, I feel sort of bad about that last post I did, the one where Dick Cheney’s head explodes in the microwave, what with it being so close to Christmas and all, so here are some random beautiful pictures of San Diego, sunsets, and sunrises, you know, to take the bad taste of exploding Dick Cheney out of your mouths…

These first few pictures are of a sunrise just a few weeks ago.

a 1 a 2I am not sure why sunrises get so much less attention than sunsets.

a 1 a 3Maybe it is just because they happen too early for most people.

a 1 a 4When I travel, I always make it a point to get up early, take a walk, and watch the sun come up. It makes me feel connected to the whole day somehow.

My wife and I took a hike with some friends of ours about a month ago. We hiked in one of the canyons not to far from where we live.

The thing… good, I was worried that this post might not have a thing… is that San Diego, despite the palm trees and beaches, is really a desert. So when you hike here, you see a lot of dry, crackley brush and sometimes cactus. But occasionally, down in the gullies and valleys and washes, you find streams that stay wet enough to support some real vegetation.

This really was like unexpectedly finding a small piece of jungle paradise.

a 1 a 8After the hike, we went to a local winery, and I caught this sunset.

a 1 a 9You know, just so the sunsets wouldn’t feel too left out in this post.

When I went to Hawaii on my first honeymoon I used to get up, sit on our lanai & watch the sun rise too!

Those hiking pictures are amazing, looks like a magical place.

How do you tell the difference between a sunrise photo and a sunset photo, unless you’re the one who took it?

  4. These are beautiful pictures, but why would anyone feel bad about Dick Cheney’s head exploding in a microwave? Unless of course the microwave belonged to a poor family who couldn’t afford to buy another one. In that case shame on you! (You should buy them a new one for Christmas.)

That last picture kinda looks like Dick Cheney getting blown up in a nuclear blast.

It worked, taste of exploding dick is all washed away. ;p

  7. I personally don’t believe sunrises actually happen. I go to bed, it’s dark. I get up, it’s not dark anymore. It’s like the sun just magically appears halfway up the sky! None of this too-early-for-God slow rising crap – there’s a switch somewhere, I just know it. 😀
