If you live in a place where it quite often snows
And there are little ice flakes in the cold wind that blows
It might be cruel of me to mention, I suppose
That here, we have blossoms on everything that grows
I hope that you survive until winter’s close
I trust that your poor little tootsies never froze
That you stayed bundled up in some warm winter clothes
And that Jack Frost didn’t nip off the tip of your nose
I really do not wish to add to your woes
But here is the dirty secret I have to expose
Remember, when experiencing the lowest of winter lows
That you live in a place that you yourself chose
Now here is a picture of a very nice rose…
Those are my Cecile Brunner roses… I remember when they were just babies in a small pot… now they cover a large portion of our side fence. These first few pictures are all from my own yard.
My bougainvillea are blooming… those are flowers that originally come from a tropic island, I believe.
Awww… cute little daisies.
I have no idea what those flowers are called, but I do love the color purple.
———-
These pictures are for my good friend, Trent
Whose get up and go sort of got up and went… (to Canada)
As a minion he is heaven-sent
You should check out his writing, he is really quite bent
And so smart that I don’t always know what he meant…
These pictures are from the garden of my wife’s aunt and uncle. We went up there for lunch the other day. They are the ones who have the dog that is best friends with out dog.
mmmmm… flowers
mmmm… colors
mmmm… nature
mmmm… the fragrance
I like the stripes on that one.
Did I mention that I love the color purple?
wow
That one has colors that I don’t even know the name of… sort of a red/pink/purple.
———-
If I am not mistaken, Trent’s last name is ‘Lewin’
Which I pronounce, in my head, to rhyme with ‘screwin’
Trent, I hope you give these pictures a really nice viewin’
Wintering in San Diego is what you should be doin’
These last two are from my next-door neighbor’s front yard.
I just threw them in to drive the poinsettia home… get it?

awesome colours and poem. 🙂 lovit.
thanks
I live in Australia. We don’t see a lot of snow here (no kidding?!). Loved the flowers
You must have some nice flowers there.
Ummmm yeah we do. But Australian natives don’t look anything like those flowers
you mean the people or the flowers?
Ha! Hysterical! I meant the flowers, but some of the local bogans are not so pretty. Especially the ones with the Southern Cross tattoo’d on themselves (we call it the Australian swastika for a reason)
Does it mean the same thing???
More or less
cool
awww I want flowers.
You deserve them… every day…
Hey! Remember that grass I was telling you about yesterday? Oh, I didn’t tell you about it? Well, the day you posted this, we were above 50 degrees! You could see grass all over the place, except where the big snow piles were, you know, like from all the plowing and shoveling… I even saw some brave little spring flowers attempting to peek out of the ground! Anyway, the predicted storm came thru while I was sleeping. Yeah, at least 5″ of snow again. It is so pretty! nice and white again, and the trees look amazing!
That sounds nice…
Well, pooh on you! California is going to break off & fall into the Pacific Ocean one of these days & then we’ll see who is laughing!
pooh on me?
Dude, that was awesome. I felt warm for the first time in like months. And it’s not just the wine speaking. Great poetry – this I’m going to share with my oldest, he will think it’s funny (and not understand the saucy bits). Anyway, I’m touched, sincerely, you just gave the gift of good poetry and sunny weather. I’ll make it down to SD sooner or later… and then we’ll make a party out of it.
You’re a good man, dude.
oh stop
Dude, you rock my world. Always have. Seriously.
You need to get out more… oh… right… you can’t…
Okay, I take it all back and will get out more.
Smell a flower… oh wait… no… uh… take a walk in the sunshi… er… uh… smell a beaver and pet a moose!
Aaaaarrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make the cold stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m tgrying
Blooming full load of smiles! (Day by day more winter clothes get put away – yea!)
Blooming bloody smiles???
carnivorous plants lurk unknown…careful
I love carnivorous plants!
83 in Oxnard yesterday. Gross. Where is my winter? Maybe I should move to Canada….
House swap!
I’m game. Any takers?
Try Trent…
I’d ask him, but I think he’s too bured in snow to reach, right?
No, I’m here, and you’re committed at this point. I would pack some gloves. We put those on our hands. And a hat. For your head. Bring a shovel. But don’t worry about importing a moose. I’ll handle that part. First you get here, could you shovel the seven-foot-snowbanks off the driveway, please, and then maybe chip the ice off the walkway? If you have any problems, just give me a ring while I lie on your sandy beach drinking your scotch…
Um… I’m taking my scotch with me….
Mounties going to confiscate it at the border. And give you a proper good-old fashioned examination.
What? Why would they confiscate my booze?
That may change everything about this house swap if I can’t have my scotch…
You could always leave it at home. After all, I’ll be there to take good care of it.
Veto. Remember, we are supposed to share a bottle next time you are in the neighborhood…
BYOB
ha
I bet they have maple flavored booze up there
Probably.
That might be good…
They will mount you good and proper
They’re good at mounting things.
They can even mount mountains,.. and fish… and assaults
They take great pride in their mounting ability.
It all amounts to the Mounties mounting
ha
The Queen would like to know if we should bring some salt with us to help with the ice?
Also, she got a bit sunburned today at one of those beach things.
Grrrrrr…. hey, we were over 0 C today. I kid you not. We were positive and in the sun. I almost lost my shit.
Laughed out loud, thanks for that.
😀
everybody get ready for a game of musical houses
Upon further reflection, The Queen vetoed the swap.
Oh well
You will find it in the spring when it thaws and begins to smell
Snow is good for sunburn
Been there, done that.
I like to visit snow…
Me too. Now if it could just stop being 80 degrees here for a few weeks so our local mountains would actually keep the snow they have…
We do need some more winter…
Rain… at least. I’d be happy with some more rain.
me too
Any in the forecast? I don’t even look anymore… what’s the point, it’s the same day in and day out: today: awesome, tomorrow: awesome with a chance of more awesomeness
Gonna be hot this week
That’s what I was afraid you were going to say…
No getting around it
And the extra super bonus for today = wind. Though, you hardly get any of that down there.
We do now and then
Nice try. You get air blown about, you get a slight breeze… you never get wind.
okay… fine
You can’t fool me, I used to live there.
Then again, I know I don’t really get wind up here either.
We had some wind during that rain storm.
A little bit, yes… but, it still doesn’t compare to “wind”
I got your wind, buddy!
Sorry about that.
HA!
I was sorry… I don’t know if I am anymore.
sorry
It’s okay.
okay
we should start as house swapping program
As long as that’s all we’re swapping…
don’t get crazy on me
It’s gettin real…
not for me it isn’t
bured in snow… ha… he has snow burs under his saddle
That’s funny.
thanks
And you can’t grow tulips. So there.
we have tulips
Um, how does it get cold enough? You force them like we do our amaryllis at Christmas?
I don’t do anything but leave the bulbs in the ground
Show off.
I do do that, don’t I
Yep, but we’re all used to it.
My husband’s aunt lives in San Diego and she’s always calling us with weather updates. Must be a southern California thing.
We like to make people jealous
And here I was celebrating our recent spike to six below freezing.
sorry
It’s okay. You’ve got nice flowers.
You should come visit them…
Trust me, I’d be totally open to seeing flowers after this winter. I mean, it’s my favorite season, but right now it’s turning into that mopey houseguest you’ve honestly been on better terms with.
Plus your green thumb is something to envy, man.
Plants like me
Nice!
thanks
Pffffftttttttttt
My work here is done.
good 😉
yes
Why are you starting to make sense to me, finally?
not me
Masta Z in the house yo.
Word.
Masters and Johnson in the house
Hmmmm, how does one spell “lame” in San Diegan?
California invented that word
because you are finally seeing the light.
Not bloody likely! Although it is sunny around here.
you call that sunny?
I didn’t think “grimey” sounded very optimistic.
probably not
Yes see there you go, the light!
don’t walk towards the light
why not it’s pretty
but you die
Maybe
eventually
Even the dimmest bulb can be seen in the darkness… ohhh… I need to tweet that
ha!
sweet
oh shut up.
Yeah what she said!
ha
sorry
Actually, I’m betting that you aren’t the least bit sorry.
maybe
It is so nice of you to think of all of us chilly Canadians. I know that it was intended for Trent but as one of his minions I figure it is like second cousins twice removed. We have sunshine here today. That may be all the spring we get so I will look at your flowers and hope.
I didn’t realize that minions had minions. Art’s blog does confuse the whole natural order of things!
Seems like a conflict of interest to me
Art’s minions went and had minions… cute! Or really wrong. I can’t tell which.
I’m going with really wrong. Cute is just unthinkable.
Art gets that a lot.
Perhaps it is Art that is unthinkable.
maybe
I get both
Everybody should have at least one minion
I have mixed feelings about this
Wait… you are one of his minions??? My minions have minions???
Confusing, ain’t it.
Just don’t let him make you do all his chores here…
You bet your sweet minions we do!
this is getting too confusing
OMG!! IT WORKED!! WE ARE IN THE 50’S TODAY!!!! There is a certain appreciation that you might not understand. Some really pretty flowers I must say!
I am glad you liked it… them…
Um Julie. Guest post?
hahaha! ok!
yes
Time and place, please. You know my e-mail address.
oh yeah
I am trying to come up with a topic. When I get something I guess I can just type it up in a word document and email it to you??
That’s all. And maybe a bit about yourself. Cause you’re a mystery, Julie, there’s no blog record of who you are and where you’re at. I just know you’re funny and that I like you, and I’d be honoured to post it up. Word is perfect, I’ll work it through.
use Word… and words…
that should work
Awww…. thanks Trent, I like you too, and you make me laugh. I guess I don’t feel like much of a mystery, after all I have known me all my life… 😉
That is more than a lot of people can say.
yes
Nevermind. it didn’t really work for that long. Winter storm advisory today. anywhere from 6 to 15 inches expected… You don’t like the weather here? Just wait a minute, it will change..
that is crazy
