I never planned on living in San Diego. My wife grew up here. When I was a kid we visited my mom’s mother in Mission Beach for a month every summer. I was stationed here for two years in the Navy. It is beautiful. But it is too hot for me. And a little too conservative. But I do admit that is a stunningly gorgeous place to live…
Palm trees, beaches, boats, we have all the tropical stuff you could want. And there is something about the prevailing wind currents and the level of moisture in the air that makes great clouds.
And great clouds are an integral part of great sunsets.
The interplay of light on cloud and water can just do something magical to the sky as the sun slips into the Pacific.
A sunset changes from moment to moment, and each moment is a never-to-be-recreated event.
There are lots of nice things about San Diego.
I love taking Shiloh to dog beach. Here she is wondering why there are so many dogs all traveling in one big pack.
Oh yeah… it’s that crazy dog walker. That seems like it would be a fun job… until they all start running in different directions. That is why you don’t go to Disneyland with 14 little kids.
Oh look… that dog found a little stick to play with.
I like watching the pelicans when they fly over in formation. Sometimes they do this ‘V’ shape. But other times they fly in a long line, and if the one in front goes up or down, or turns to the side, then the whole row follows along exactly like cars on a rollercoaster.
I like watching the shore birds as they prowl around looking for food.
And I like that the climate here allows us to grow tropical flowers.

So beautiful…me jealous!
Go find the Bay Area posts… that is where my heart is.
I saw….I prefer the Los Angles and south of there, areas… The fog around the bridge makes for nice pics, though 🙂
The weather and beaches are better in the south, but the people are better up North.
I can see that point. People in SoCal appear a tad vain
You have no idea… wait… are you talking about me???
No, the hollywood types
Ha… I knew that…
oh… you did… never mind… I am going to like having you around…
Yes, you must like having me around….i’m a good egg.
Yes you are, and I am a shameless attention hog… so…
I’m attentive!
Ha!
Siri just “ha”d at me, too
I invented that… I don’t do LOL…
Siri is quite contemtuous!
I asked her to make me laugh and she said, with a scornful voice, “i don’t know any jokes and I don’t think you would understand them in my language.. Get Siri-ous.ha”
It must be hard to be a comedian. People would always be asking you to make them laugh. But you don’t ask a doctor friend to give you a free nose job.
Have you seen tbe commercial for the new chevy sonic? It has a button for an iphone. In the commercial the girl presses the button and asks siri to tell her a joke….so that’s where i got the idea from. I usually just abuse her and make her call me the queen of the universe.
I had an old Garmin GPS… I thought the American female voice sounded bossy, so I switched it to a British accent and it was awesome. I called her Gypsy. I also used to set it to speak weird foreign languages like Czechoslovakian just for fun.
I wonder if Siri can do that? I could use that kinda fun!
They must have foreign languages. You might have to download something. I don’t know. I’m a technology moron… all art-side-of-the-brain.
I’m not so great with technology either. If I get bored, I’ll look to change Siri’s language for shits and giggles. Tonight, I’m sleepy from too much time in the pool today. We’re having a heat wave here!
Okay. We don’t have a pool… we have the Pacific Ocean.
I’m an hour from the Atlantic Ocean!
Yeah… but that one is cold.
True… It’s not so bad in Florida.. Or the islands… But in New Jersey it doesn’t get warmer than maybe 72°..cold water sucks
Oh… that isn’t bad. I don’t think it gets much warmer than that here. And up North it is pretty cold.
It reaches 72 in late summer…was out on a beach in Long Island a few weeks ago and the water was cold…i truly wish I could dip my toes into the Pacific…my soul drinks from the tide of longing…and I long to feel at one, again, with the Pacific Ocean. You’re so fortunate to live in California.
Well get over here… liven the place up… add a little class… we could sure use some of that…
My 3 kids don’t help matters. Only my 10 year okd wants to move there. I’m not getting any younger, waiting for them to be old enough to be on their own.
Just tell them you are taking them to Disneyland… and pack a lot of stuff.
Good idea!
After two or three years they will even give up trying to escape…
Often, I hear demands for their release from captivity as it is…I’m thinking shock collars.
Cattle prods are less obvious to the authorities… just sayin’…
Good idea…. Someone suggested I beat the kids with a phone book when they step out of line. It doesn’t leave marks, so I was told.
But a sock filled with bars of soap hurts more.
Damn! I hope living in Califirnia turns out to be worth the child abuse, for them and for me hehe
We hold our own.
I think mentioning the nice weather would do it…but flying back east to visit sperm donor doesn’t thrill!
He can just mail more if you need it… HA! oh man… I kill me…
I don’t need it…the kidlings need to visit
I knew that but it just slipped out… I have no self control.
Hmmmmm….mailing a sample…I could only imagine it drying up before it got here…but then what would I do with it? Glaze a doughnut?
Here is a thought, provided you can keep it fresh. Make a bunch of new female friends. Ones that want to have kids, but don’t care about finding a man. Then use it to impregnate as many of them as you can all at once. Then have them all sue the ‘daddy’ for child support at the same time.
Omg that’s horrible. There’s a movie script waiting to happen!
Not until they turn my sci-fi action comedy novel series into a movie or TV series.
Is everyone in SoCal hoping for a tv show or movie deal?
In LA yes, but they aren’t all nearly as clever as I am.
You could be right!
That’s how I know I’m clever.
Smartfeller or fartsmeller?
I could go either way…
A lot if guys do
Especially in California.
Probably near LA
especially.
How much would a 3 bedroom house in a decent neighborhood cost in your neck of the woods and how scary are earthquakes?
I have no idea. I am bad with numbers. And only big earth quakes are really scary.
But I might do a post of that idea… leaving you out of it…
How considerate! Please write it up….I need a giggle!
It is in the works.
Yay! Can’t wait!
I grew up in the Bay Area but went to San Diego State. My youngest son went to a different school there and still lives in Point Loma. If I had work there I would relocate to SD in a heartbeat. Such an amazing city with great people and a great climate. What’s not to like other than traffic?
I can’t get the Bay Area out of my head.
i’ve been there 🙂 the dog with the “little” stick, that would be the size of stick our wiener dog would go after. he has a bad case of “little man syndrome.” lol
Nothing worse than little wiener man syndrome!
you’re not kidding!
No… I’m not…
It’s a gorgeous area – nice sailing.
There is that.
Hi Fellow Blogger,
You said that San Diego was too hot for you (how about if you lived within blocks from the beach?). Where is the better weather for you all year round? Just curious.
Katie Q
The beach is about 10 degrees cooler than inland most of the time. But it is crowded and there is no parking in the summer.
Lovely homage to my hometown!
It is a lovely town.
