Horses… and I saved the best for last…

I will just come right out and say it… I fell in love…

a 1 a 1

While I was walking around making new friends, I spotted this little beauty. She was very shy. It took a while to coax her over to say hello.

a 1 a 2

And at first she wanted to stay at arm’s reach.

a 1 a 3

But I was patient.

a 1 a 4

And then I found the spot… the spot that most horses and dogs have… the spot that they love to be scratched… right between her ears…

a 1 a 5

After that, it was all love… that is the tip of my nose, over there on the left… horses, believe it or not, like it when you sniff them while they are sniffing you… just a tip…

a 1 a 6

Then we spent about ten minutes just nuzzling each other. She was the sweetest, nuzzeliest, snuggeliest horse I ever met. She liked to breathe softly into my ear. I could have stayed there all day.

a 1 a 7

Not bad for a selfie, huh? Except for the shadow of the phone. And yes, I have product in my hair… hey, don’t judge me… I was meeting new people. And one of them was a professional model.

Okay, here is the thing… and this is the kind of thing I love… but this horse…

a 1 a 1

My new best friend here… had a story of her own. When I finished getting to know her, I turned around and was surprised to find all the humans staring at me. So I walked over to find out what was up. It turns out that my new friend was a wild-born mustang. She isn’t saddle broken. She is still part wild. And nobody else had been able to get her to approach them on her own.

Hey, I am just that good.

Horses… part 2…

I met this little sweetheart…

a 1 a 1

Come on, how cute is she?

a 1 a 2

I could look at that face all day.

a 1 a 3

She was a real beauty, and very sweet…

a 1 a 4

And you know what, she wasn’t even my favorite… so be sure to join me again later today.

a 1 a 5

Because: Horsies!!!

Horses… part 1…

I got to go riding again this weekend.

a 1 a 1

That is Whiskey, my new buddy. I wish I could tell the whole story. It involves a guy who recently started working at the company where my wife works… and by pure coincidence, she found out that he is really good friends with the brother of a really good friend of ours… and he has a wife who is a model and is involved in a TV show I can’t mention either…

a 1 a 2

And somehow, the subject of horses came up at work, and my wife mentioned how I make her stop the car in the middle of the road so I can get out and pet horses because that is how much I love them… and it turns out that they have two horses…

a 1 a 3

That is Prince, the horse my wife rode.

a 1 a 4

Prince and Whiskey are both thoroughbred race horses. In fact, one of them is related to Secretariat, the most famous racehorse ever. They are a little skittish and hard to handle because they want to run.

a 1 a 5

It’s funny how it looks like that horse is too small for me, because that horse is really tall. I am just that big.

a 1 a 6

Always curry and brush your horse after riding if you are given the chance. It is only fair. They lugged your ass around. Okay, I will be back later with some more pictures of other horses I met that day.

Never ever ever buy one of those stupid disposable underwater cameras if you are going on your second honeymoon to Maui and plan on doing some snorkeling, because the quality of the pictures is terrible… but I got to swim with sea turtles!!!

a 1 a 1

And seriously, that was one of the highlights of the trip, if not my entire life. Yes, I finally got the photos developed, and the quality sucks… I am not even going to bother posting the pictures of the other fish I took. But this was before we borrowed that awesome little Go Pro camera from the in-laws, so it was all I had.

a 1 a 2I think this was from the first or second time I went in the water, just right out in front of our hotel. I spotted this guy, and had the pleasure of swimming halfway across the bay with him. We were side by side, only a few feet apart. That right there is a Green sea turtle, called the Honu by the locals… not to be confused with the Honu’ea, or Hawskbill sea turtle.

a 1 a 3I was deeply moved as I let him go on his merry way.

a 1 a 4I guess my wife took that picture. I like the bubbles.

a 1 a 5

She must have taken that picture of my smiley face too. Okay, that really is the last of the Maui pictures… until we get the ones off her cell phone…

Because… baby goats!!!

a 1 a 1

We took Willie to the petting zoo at the Safari Park. He didn’t really want to meet the animals up close, which is weird, because he lives with a big dog… bigger than most of those goats… but hey, we all like different things. And the cool thing about taking a kid someplace is that you get to have fun too, right?

a 1 a 2

So I made friends with some goats. I love goats. They have devil eyes… but sweet devil eyes.

a 1 a 3

And they always look like they are smiling… sort of like me now that I shaved my mustache off.

a 1 a 4

That one is looking at me… dreamily… because animals, and babies, love me.

a 1 a 5

Big Johnny, Willie’s dad, made some new friends too.

a 1 a 6

Now you may not know this, but, like dogs, a lot of animals have a favorite place that they like to have scratched. If you can find that place, you have made a new friend for life. Guys, there might be a lesson in there someplace…

a 1 a 7And I might not still be talkin’ about goats…

The sun sets on Maui… part 2…

Well, here they are… the last of the pictures of our second honeymoon on Maui… more or less… as I explained…

a 1 a 1

Almost every sunset we saw there was magical.

a 1 a 2

And I have had fun sharing all this with you.

a 1 a 3

I tried to save the best for last.

a 1 a 4

Oh, and I just did something weird, and I will have to share some pictures of that with you later today… just so you know.

a 1 a 5

It is something I have only done a handful of times since I was thirteen-years-old.

a 1 a 6

No… not that… get your mind out of the gutter…

a 1 a 7

Ha! It occurs to me that only I would be doing this bizarre dialog between these beautiful pictures…

a 1 a 8

But that is why you love me, right?

a 1 a 9

Ironically, a friend of ours that my wife has known since before high school is going to Maui next week with her wife… yeah, I said her wife… I wasn’t kidding when I said that at least half of our friends are gay… so, she is coming over and we are going to make her look at all of our vacation photos tonight after dinner… and you thought looking at them over the course of two months was a lot of work for you!

a 1 a 10

Oooohhh… isn’t that a lovely sunset? No, it isn’t… that was a trick comment. That is a sunrise…

a 1 a 11

And that, people, is why you never sleep in on vacations… you might miss a sunrise like that there!!!

The sun sets on Maui… part 1…

a 1 a 1

Well, this is it… the end of an era…

a 1 a 2

Or at least the end of the pictures of our 25th anniversary-second honeymoon on Maui…

a 1 a 3

Well except for a roll of pictures of a sea turtle I swam with, taken with a cheap, disposable underwater camera before I borrowed the cool Go Pro camera from Kirk… which I still have not taken to be developed… because that is just so last century… oh, and some videos I took with the Go Pro that I haven’t figured out how to get on the blog… because I am a computer moron.

a 1 a 4These are just random sunset pictures, mostly taken from the beach at our hotel.

a 1 a 5

I hope you have enjoyed the last month or so. I know I showed you a lot of pictures of jungle and animals and volcanoes and beaches and fish and stuff. But I tried to put a spin on it… you know, like I do… so it wasn’t just like looking at somebody’s vacation pictures… even though that is exactly what it was.

a 1 a 6

At least I tried to make it seem like you were looking at endless vacation photos being narrated by a stand up comedian.

a 1 a 7

Maybe you learned something about Maui, or was reminded of a time you went there.

a 1 a 8

Maybe you got some good ideas of fun things to do next time you travel.

a 1 a 9

Or maybe I am just kidding myself.

a 1 a 10

Either way, I do appreciate you letting me share this with you. Because it let me relive the experience. And now it is here… more or less forever… so future generations of little people with my genes running around inside them can look at it…

a 1 a 11

… and wonder what the hell was wrong with their great grandpa…

Well, I have almost reached the end of the photos from our second honeymoon on Maui…

a 1 a 1

I hope you have enjoyed sharing the adventures of yours truly, my lovely wife… (once again, honey, I know you do not want to be shown on my blog, and I apologize profusely for violating your privacy this way, but look at you… you are gorgeous, and I am so proud to be married to you), my wife’s sister, and her husband. Thanks again, guys, for all you did to make our trip special.

a 1 a 2

After that magic night where we renewed our vows on the beach, we went to a very fancy restaurant and ate a very fancy meal and drank some very fancy drinks…

a 1 a 3The food was spectacular, as was the view, and the dessert was a work of art…

a 1 a 4I think that says: ‘Happy Anniversary’… in Hawaiian… but I was pretty hammered by that time.

a 1 a 5

Kirk, my brother-in-law, took these pictures of that tiki guy in Lahaina as he carved the date on the bottom of the tiki we bought, earlier on our anniversary day.

a 1 a 6That guy was really good. I may need to steal some of his ideas and carve a few more tikis myself.

a 1 a 7I could have stood there all day and watched him work.

a 1 a 8Seriously, if you ever end up on Maui, stay at the Mauian… it is freekin’ awesome.

a 1 a 9And go to a luau… you will not regret it.

I would like to thank all the little people…

And since I am 6 feet 4 inches tall, I guess that would be almost all of you…

So… thanks everybody!
