Trump is playing the dictator rule book page by page. His hardcore base of racist homophobic fanatics is falling for it, hook, line and sinker. He has turned the blame for all the problems we face onto minorities and foreigners. He has marginalized women and turned the free press into the enemies of the State. He has reversed the entire concept of separation of church and state. But mostly, he has somehow managed to make the truth count for nothing and made the loudest voices the only ones that are heard.
His followers long for a time when white men made all the decisions. Be careful what you wish for. You might get what you want, but if those white men making the decisions are all complete asshats, in the end, it will come back and bite you.
They started by removing the regulations that keep our water and food safe, and our air breathable, and the rules that would keep us from another economic collapse. Now they have taken over the courts and our system of laws. Is it really so hard to believe that a takeover of our military is far behind. Replace the military leadership that rose through the ranks on merit with more fawning sycophants like the rest of the morally-decrepit band of hooligans that he surrounds himself with, and the path is clear.
I have been warning you about this since before he was elected. I tried humor and fear to pass this warning on. The tipping point is approaching. Once the military answers to him alone, will you be able to gather in protest? If the republicans maintain the majority in the House and Senate, and the courts are filled with his appointees, what is to stop Trump from deciding to stay in office as long as he is able to, and then pass the office down to his children.
No one at first took Hitler as a serious threat, a funny man with funny hair, who screamed hatred into the faces of a small but loyal group of followers. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The checks and balances that keep us safe are falling, one by one. The danger is real.
