So, it is time to make a book cover! As I said, I am doing it all, right here, on the blog. And yes, I am using my younger daughter as the model. She is supposed to be Princess Hildread Halfmoon, the awesome main character. Yes, that is a helmet that I actually own. Hey, don’t judge me. The jacket is also mine.
Some of you might have noticed that the helmet is on backwards in this photo. That is because it isn’t supposed to end up looking like an American Army helmet when I am done in Photoshop. Princess Hildy leads the resistance army in the struggle against the evil empire in the novel… so that PVC pipe will end up being a spear, if this is the photo I choose to make into the cover art.
Or I might end up using that one. I told Mollie to give me her best war face. There are a lot of choices to make for this cover art. I am going to spend some time doing some mock ups, and then I will post those. Now it is all about the layout. Something that captures the spirit of the book, and the teenage princess who has to lead an army.
I will get back to you soon.
I like that face, if it wasn’t meant to be brave she might look unhappy lol
Well, she is leading a bunch of friends into battle against an evil empire, so it might be a bit of both.
Lol… One would expect that!
One would, presumably.
Mollie is beautiful and an excellent choice for the front cover. This is going to be fun!
She is so perfect for the character. I just need to decide where to go from here.
So many possibilities! Just try loads of stuff… then we all get to enjoy all the awesome artwork.
Right. I might do quick mock-ups, so as not to take too much time from the actual book cover art.
Good idea. Or you could take longer over the cover than the actual book.
Right… I will do that… but I want to experiment with a few quick variations and see what people think.
Okay, I will be back… going to do some mock-ups!!!
Great!
