It’s nice to look at nature while you eat… part 2…

I told you I would explain why all those fish-hunting birds hang around outside the Barefoot Bar and Grill. The reason is simple. They have a big fish pond… with big fish… and some fairly sizable sharks…

It is fun to watch sharks swimming around while you eat. It makes you feel like part of the food chain. In fact, I have a funny thing I like to do. I try to tie my meal choice in with whatever we are doing when we go out if it is at all possible. If we go to an Aquarium, and they have a place to buy food, I like to order fish for lunch. We went to an ostrich farm once where I fed the ostriches. Then I bought some of their ostrich jerky. Don’t worry, I didn’t eat it right in front of the live ostriches. I’m not mean-spirited.

It’s just that eating something that relates to what you are doing makes the experience so much more immersive. Like eating Chinese food in China, or Hawaiian food in Hawaii.

Anyway… who the heck threw that pen in the water? What a jerk! Where was I? Oh, right, the birds. The birds like to hang around looking at all the fish in the big lagoon. Even though the birds are pretty big, these fish are way too big for them to eat. But it is like a giant hi-def TV for birds.

a 1 a 4You can see they even have tuna fish in there. I think those are yellowtail tuna. I’m not absolutely positive about that. But they did have yellow tails.

And they have… those… which I think is some kind of shovel head shark.

My favorites are the sharks. Sharks are just cool.

And trust me, this place serves pretty darn good salmon.

It’s weird, but I also get the same craving for sea food after visiting an aquarium.

Have I got a deal for you. We have an institution called “Bearbrook Farms” not far from where I live (1/2 hr drive). They have a petting zoo, a large auditorium for weddings, etc, a motel, a restaurant and a speciality food shop that sells every meat from elk to shark to ostrich to alligator, etc. The joke is that you can go to the petting zoo and feed the animals then go to the restaurant and eat what you just petted. (full sensory exposure) and then buy some and take it home. Ha! Think of all the places you could go to eat with a choice of food like that. Oh, I found out about them because they buy used refrigeraton equipment (commmercial stuff) , recondition it and ship it to Poland (they are Poles). We used to haul the containers for them.
