Say that five times fast…
Look at me. I was so happy to be back in the Bay Area that I did one of those photos of myself. I never do those. The reason for this trip had to do with Girl Scouts. No… it wasn’t an emergency cookie run. My daughter Mollie and her troop are moving up to a new level. They do these ceremonies called ‘bridging’. Instead of using a symbolic bridge or a small bridge at a park, they decided to do this one on the best bridge in the world, the Golden Gate bridge.
I was drafted to drive all the extra luggage and sleeping bags up. My wife is the leader of the troop, and her and another mom took four of the girls to stay for four days at my mom’s house. They did all kinds of cool tourist stuff while I hung out with my mom.
But I did take them all up to see my favorite sunset spot…
Those of you who have been around for a while will remember pictures from the top of the steep hills just East of Berkeley. I took some great pictures of trees in the fog up there, and the pictures of my friend Andy and Mollie having a race through the DNA sculpture…
There are few better places on Earth to watch the sun slip from the sky as millions of lights flicker on below you…
I can’t remember if I ever took a picture of the life-sized plastic whale in front of the Lawrence Hall of Science. This whale actually makes a short guest appearance in the second book of my Science Fiction novels. When I take them sightseeing, one of the aliens asks me if it is a real…
As I recall, my character in the book makes a joke that whales seldom travel that far from the water just to see a science museum…
If you line the camera up just right, the fountain beyond looks like the whale is spouting. But mostly he just sort of lays there…
My wife was sure that the girls would be too tired after all their adventures to want to go anywhere just to see a sunset…
But it turns out she was wrong… not that that happens very often… and they enjoyed it.
If you are going to the Bay Area, drop me a comment, and I will tell you how to find these view spots. Only locals go there. The tourists mostly miss it. Unless you have a friend like me…

Only some water could make the pics better! I love sunsets.
Oh, I got your water…
We love San Francisco and if we ever get to visit again I will certainly ask you where to find the best sunset viewing place. 🙂
I hope you do. It is worth the drive.
OH Girl scouts!! i LOVED girl Scouts! when my girls were Girl scouts I would pay for 1 or 2 girls who couldn’t afford it to go. I paid all the dues and registration and field trip money.. I only wish I could of paid for camp. Here in Massachusetts Girl scout camp is Camp Bonnie Brae.
That is so awesome. I was a boy scout. It is good for kids in so many ways.
Noooooo not Jeff Bridges, I meant to say
Val Kilmer 🙂 I always get mixed up with those
two actors 😦 lmao
Andro
When I was young, I looked like Jim Morrison.
great posting my friend
and the photographs are excellent
by the way 🙂
Has anyone ever mentioned that
you have a big nose, sorry wrong
person, has anyone ever mentioned
that you look like Jeff Bridges? No

Andro
I have a face that reminds everybody of somebody elses face.
ahhh i can’t handle the eyes, the sunglasses are off!
Don’t be like that.
Maniacal laughter from the balcony seats!
LOL!! He so had that coming!
hey now
well didn’t you?
I guess.
😀
Don’t encourage them.
How noble of you to volunteer your expertise in these things…Nice pics.
That sounded a tad sarcastic. If you would rather rely on guide books to get around…
Not really, I was just getting bored of hearing myself say the usual words. Plus driving scouts around is always noble. Unless they’re terrorists, I guess.
These ones weren’t.
That explains why you lived to make a lovely post afterwards.
I guess.
That’s the best selfie ever! Thanks for sharing, I love the Bay Area! 🙂
Maybe I used a stunt double…
Next time I demand duck lips…
Those are tasty with orange sauce.
