Love your country, but don’t love it blindly… Don’t love anything blindly… I mean, unless you are actually blind, I guess…

a 26I love this crazy country. I am as patriotic as the next guy… unless that guy is running for president, because those guys are, to hear them tell it, the most patriotic of us all… which makes it all the more ironic when they also say that America is now ruined because of Obama, and they have to fix it… I mean, isn’t that sort of a contradiction?

The thing is… Hello, ‘thing’, I haven’t seen you around for a few days… that you can love something and still have expectations. You can still ask questions. You can still voice an opinion that isn’t entirely positive. Loving something blindly is like driving your car blindly. It doesn’t really matter how good a driver you are if you refuse to look at anything.

It is all well and good to proclaim that the country in which you happened to be born is the best country on the planet. We are sort of hardwired that way. But when you let the emotion become so deep-seated that you stop looking at the details… that is where it becomes blind love, and that is when you stop thinking things can get better.

We might well be the best country in some ways. But can we ignore studies that say we are falling behind in some areas? When our infant mortality rate reaches levels below that of some third world countries… when our educational system isn’t keeping up with the rest of the world in teaching math and science… when millions still have no health care, but people scream about socialism and how evil it is without having a real plan to fix the problem… are we doing ourselves a disservice?

Hey, I love my kids too. I think they are the best kids on the planet… (even though I am sure a few billion other parents out there might argue the point)… but when they are having problems in some class at school, we try to help them understand the subject. When they are having problems with another kid, we try to teach them ways to get along and compromise and talk through the problems.

The thing… (sorry, this isn’t one of my ‘things’, this is just an expression)… about blind love… or blind obedience… or blind faith… (not the band, the unquestioning belief in some religion)… is that it stops us from ever looking for ways to improve that which we love… or obey… or have faith in.

Love doesn’t mean: ‘This thing or person is perfect’. It means: ‘I care about this thing or person, and, while I love them just the way they are, I still want them to reach for ever higher goals, become even better, and never stop growing’.

I suppose that the other side of this coin is when people expect too much from those they love, and put too much pressure on them to be better… (I’m talking to you, tiger moms)… and end up making that person a miserable wretch who spends the rest of their life in therapy… but that is a topic for another post.

My three best spams of the day… randomly mixed together… as a poem…

Hi there everybody, here every person is sharing these kinds of experience,                          thus it’s pleasant  to read this website,                                                                                          and I used to pay a visit to this web site daily.

Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets
with well-known themes of “very good fortune” or “happiness”,                                      “wealth”, and “longevity.”                                                                                                                  Other activities contain lighting firecrackers and giving funds in red paper
envelopes.

Brooms and dust pans are place away on the 1st day so that
the newly arrived excellent luck can not be swept away.

Adam Ruins Everything… a TV show you should really watch…

The premise is simple enough. This Adam guy, using quoted and reliable sources, explains why so much that we humans do is just crap. If you are a cynic like I am, this will make you giddy. If you aren’t a cynic yet… you soon will be.

So far, Adam has explained why:

The TSA and airport security is nothing but theater…

Wine experts are complete fakes, and can’t tell a good wine from a bad wine or even a red wine from a white wine… (if you add some coloring to it)… in a blind taste test…

Tom’s Shoes giving away free extra pairs of shoes to poor people who don’t want them or need them is ruining local economies… oh, and those $60.00 shoes you are buying cost them $4.00 dollars to make… so, even with the ‘free’ pair they give away…

How forensic science is nothing like you think it is from watching all those CSI shows on TV…

How most of the fish you buy in grocery stores and restaurants aren’t the kind of fish they are telling you they are, but rather cheap junk fish that they dyed to look like something else because we are literally fishing most of our favorite fishes right into extinction… (seriously, did we all think that every restaurant in the world could keep serving all of us fresh, wild salmon forever???)…

And a bunch of other stuff about how we are being robbed and deceived by marketing and ad companies and big business and corporations who don’t care about our health or the environment at all.

Doesn’t that sound like fun?

(It actually is fun… the guy is a goober, but he does it all in a really funny way, and has this crazy hair that, by itself is worth watching the show for… and he makes fun of how annoying he is)…

If nothing else, you should know that the drug companies that sell us acetaminophen would never have gotten that drug to pass the safety requirements in place today, and those are still woefully inadequate. More people are dying from liver poisoning from this supposedly harmless pain reliever than you would ever believe, and the difference between a daily ‘safe’ dose and a deadly dose is like two freekin’ pills.

I have some good news… and some bad news… and some more good news… and some more bad news… etc…

I have received the first copy of the murder  mystery set in World War Two London. That is good news. The bad news is that, as usual, there are a few glitches. This time it involves indentation… which is all over the place, with some paragraphs being indented twice, and others up to 5 times… Also, some chapters, for reasons known only to people smarter than me, are double spaced between paragraphs, while others aren’t.

More good news is that so far I have only found like 3 actual typos that can be traced back directly to me. The bad news is that I still have to fix all this and then order another copy to double-check the fixes… so… more delays.

The good news is that my cover worked splendidly. The bad news is that doesn’t really matter, I still have to order another copy.

A bit of bad news is that a stomach bug swept through our household. Mollie got it firsts, then my wife, who worked from home, which explains why I haven’t posted in a few days.

I will keep you informed of all developments… as I recuperate.

We need to bring the democratic party and the republican party together… the final chapter… finally…

a 25There it is… the perfect representation of the American political system… two rear ends capable of producing nothing but an endless supply of pure crap… really, what else is there to say?

We need to bring the democratic party and the republican party together… part 6…

a 27Say what you will, but that really does sum up our screwed up political system… two ends, pulling against each other… never going anywhere… sigh…
