uh… goats and stuff…

a 1

Whenever we go back to the Bay Area, we like to stop by the little farm in Tilden Park, in the hills above Berkeley, and not far from my mom’s house.

a 2

As is often the case, this time we went with our Godson and his parents. The Little Farm is awesome.

a 3

It has goats… with their weird devil eyes.

a 4

And it has cows… who get fed a lot of lettuce and carrots…

a 5

Until, eventually, they are like: whatever man… seriously… I couldn’t eat another bite.

a 6I just like that picture because the geese line up so well… it sort of flows… if you know what I mean.

a 7  Okay, goodbye for now, little cow.

Star Wars spoilers… (but not really)… part 5…

By far the worst character in the new Star Wars movie… Jar Jar Sphinx!

Star Wars spoilers… (but not really)… part 4…

My favorite new character was the robot called BB-8… which, it turns out, stands for Beach Ball number 8…

Star Wars spoilers… (but not really)… part 3…

Well, this was, without a doubt, one of the most surprising scenes in the entire new Star Wars movie…

Star Wars spoilers… (but not really)… part 1…

I went and saw the new Star Wars movie finally… and I had no idea that the storm troopers were allowed such artistic freedom of choice when it came to adding flourishes to their uniforms!

And now, some random pictures of the Golden Gate…

a 1

Because, you know, we were there over the holidays, on the other side of the bay… at my mom’s house…

a 2

But we took time out to clean up a beach, and play with our Godson, and whatnot.

a 3

And really, can you ever get sick of looking at that bridge?

a 4

Even though, for some weird reason, it is still the most popular place to commit suicide on the entire planet.

a 5

Which is stupid… because that water is freekin’ cold!

And sometimes, life is all just about getting poked with a stick…

a 1

While we were in the Bay Area for the holidays, we went and saw our Godson, Willie, and his parents, in San Francisco.

a 3

Willie’s mom was organizing volunteers for another beach cleanup, a thing she is very active in. In the distance, on the left, you can see my older daughter, Jessica, and her boyfriend, Jason, cleaning up the world one bucketful at a time.

a 4I also spotted this cute little shorebird.

a 5I find it fascinating that birds are so specialized… that there are birds that find all their food in that strange, shifting place between the land and the sea.

a 6Also, I now want a stairway to nowhere…

a 7 Because a stairway to nowhere really leads to anywhere…

a 8

And this is why a clean beach is so important…

a 2

Because it gives you a place where a kid can chase you around with a stick.

In the town where I was born…

a 1

Okay, I admit it. When you look at the main street in my home town, it looks a little like Mayberry RFD.

a 3

I mean, seriously, that is all there is to the business district.

a 4

The main difference is that in Mayberry, you can’t see the Golden Gate bridge in the distance.

a 5

Growing up in a small town is awesome… it is even more awesome when it is just a short drive to world-class dining and culture.

a 6

I was very lucky to grow up where I did.

a 7

I never get sick of going home again.

a 8

I never stop missing the Bay Area.
