I know that last post wasn’t my best Photoshop work…

But I figured out how to use a new version of Photoshop… on my new laptop… with no mouse… so hopefully, from now on, even when I travel, I can now do posts with pictures. Not bad for a computer moron!

Seriously… republicans… do you really want to continue the downhill slide???

I mean, come on!

Okay, here’s the deal… A good news/bad news thing…

Um, we are backing up our computer, and it says it has eight more days to go. That’s the bad news. The good news is that I just got a new laptop, so I can still do posts… but I don’t know if I can add pictures… and I have more pictures of my adventure.

I will keep you informed.

Yeah, I woke up at three in the morning and drove on a foggy road by cliffs to get you these pictures…

a 1

I know I did this same journey once before, under similar circumstances… that is how much I care… but driving Highway One on the coast of California between Santa Cruz and Morro Bay is freekin’ awesome…

a 2

I had to pull over by this little bay to take a picture of fishing boats in the fog. I mean, what is better than driving on a foggy road in the early morning hours? Nothing… except maybe riding a horse with a baby in one hand and a puppy in the other.

a 3

That’s my opinion anyway.

a 4

I pulled into Monterey about 4:15. I drove out of my way to get a few photos of the downtown area.

a 5

Monterey is awesome. They have a great aquarium… but it isn’t open at this time of day. Hell, the Starbucks wasn’t even open yet.

a 6

Maybe this place is familiar to you if you ever read any John Steinbeck.

a 7

Where does the fish you eat come from? From guys like the guys on this fishing boat, coming home a 4:30 in the morning.

a 8

Those are the lights around Monterey Bay, taken from right beside the aquarium.

a 9

And then I was back on the road, passing through Big Sur, cliffs dropping off on my right to the wild Pacific coastline below me, and cliffs rising up on my left holding off the sunrise.

a 10

But that is the moonlight reflecting on the ocean, just as the sun began to tint the sky.

Time to say goodbye to my cousins… and their weird cats…

a 1

These are the last pictures of my days staying with my cousins in Santa Cruz, helping out with the baby… and playing with Clark.

a 2

That kid has so much energy.

a 3

He never stops moving.

a 4

There is my Cousin, Mallorie… Clark and Campbell’s mom. You know she is a good mom…

a 5

Because a good mom climbs into a tiny crawl-tube and hops around like a demented kangaroo-worm…

a 6

… just to hear her kid laugh. Now, I am not saying it was just because of me and my sneaky ‘degassing a colicky baby’ tricks… but you know who you don’t see in these pictures?

This guy…

a 8

Because little four-week-old Campbell was not crying all the time anymore, and was even sleeping now and then.

a 6

And when the baby is happy… or at least not crying… then mom gets to spend time with the other kid.

a 7

Once again, I am not claiming all the credit. It might have been a coincidence.

a 8

But either way…

a 9

I climbed part way up a hill behind their house to take that picture… I would have gone farther, but they terrified me with stories about ticks…

Oh, and I promised weird cats…

a 10

And I always deliver on my promises…

a 13

Yup… that’s Niles and Frasier…

a 11

No… I don’t know what the deal is with those two… but I had to stop letting them sleep with me, because one of them would wait until dark and then rub his face on my face so hard that it would move my head back and forth no matter how hard I tightened up my neck muscles… which is cute… for the first five minutes…

a 12

Okay, we are nearing the end of the adventure… except for the fact that I got up at 3:00 AM the following morning and drove down most of the coast of California, seeing all kinds of cool things… and some neat animals… so… uh… yeah… See you back here soon.

We interrupt these pictures of cute kids to… uh… bring you pictures of a different cute kid…

a 1

I got to babysit my little buddy Olivia again today.

a 2

Oh man, she was adorable. Her mom said she had to go to work, so Olivia waved at her and said: “bye, momma”… while her mom was still holding her… that’s how much she loves me.

a 3

Scrunchy face!!!

a 4

And now, fun things you can do with a shirt.

a 5

You should totally try that.

a 6

We had so much fun. We laughed a lot. I bounced her on the bed. We read books. She is really learning how to talk now. And I get to see her tomorrow too…

The thing is… (hey, I never used a ‘thing’ in a title before)…

But the thing is… this little guy right here…

a 1

… is a colicky baby. Now, if you have never had a baby with ‘the colic’, it is not fun. Our first daughter, Jessica, slept through the night from day one… almost. Mollie, not so much. A colicky baby cries all the time. And they barely sleep. Campbell is a colicky baby.

a 2

Clark was also colicky, but not these days.

a 3

Now, he is what you call an ‘active child’… he never stops moving. So my cousin, Mallorie, and her husband, have their hands full.

a 4

An active kid and a colicky baby is a tough combination. You get no sleep at all. So my wife decided that she and Mollie would rent a car to drive back to San Diego… because they had stuff to do… but they left me with the cousins for five days to help out.

a 5

Now, you know I never brag about my awesome ‘baby whispering’ skillz… but I think I did help out a little.

a 6

And I might be going back in a few weeks to help some more… if they still need me.

More stuff I did with my little cousins…

a 1

No, Clark, your brother isn’t ‘blurry’… he looks like that because I too the picture while he was swinging back and forth… and you have something on your face…

a 2

So we took the little scamps to a children’s play ‘museum’ in a mall in Santa Cruz.

a 3

It is one of Clarks favorite things to do.

a 4

Little four-week-old Campbell was asleep in the stroller… which is an amazing thing… but, once again, we will get to that later.

a 5

There were lots of cute kids here, and I played with them, but I didn’t take any pictures of an area until it was deserted… because taking pictures of stranger’s kids can be a little creepy.

a 6

Ooooh… the magic sand… I don’t know how they make that stuff, but it is much cooler than regular sand.

a 7

Oh…

a 8

And next time I visit, I plan to work with Clark on ‘pretzel-to-mouth-size ratios’…

Okay, one more post about my adorable little cousins… for today…

a 1

You can’t get much cuter than that, can you?

a 2

But you can try.

a 3

The little town above Santa Cruz where my cousin live is absolutely beautiful.

a 4

We took Clark down to a little stream near their house.

a 5

He climbed on a big fish carved from a tree stump.

a 6

It was a cute stream.

a 7

Then we took Clark to the park.

a 8

I think he liked it.

a 9

And I took that picture because it looks like those two leaves are holding hands.

Clark is workin’ the camera…

a 1

My little cousin… doing the full Vogue…

a 2

Oh yeah… bubble wrap…

a 3

Not the scrunchy face!!!

a 4

After spending the day with my cousins, my wife, Mollie and I stopped by the famous Santa Cruz Boardwalk… Mollie looks just like her mom, doesn’t she?

a 5

The Boardwalk is more fun during the day. When you go on the rides, you can see the Pacific Ocean stretching away beside you.

a 6

We just walked around for a while. Mollie had never seen the Boardwalk before.

a 7

I did want to win one of those ‘Dia De La Muerta’ stuffed doll things though…

a 8

Or maybe go in the haunted house…
