We have already discussed the difficulties inherent in taking good pictures of bad subjects.

There isn’t really much you can do to get around this problem.

I guess you could try to fix these in Photoshop, if you had the time.

Conversely, I could have combed my hair… and shaved… and had that mole removed… and had the wrinkly bags under my eyes tightened up.

Or my daughter could have just taken pictures of flowers.

We… a poem…

We surround ourselves with walls to protect our fragile hearts, and our fortress becomes our prison…

We are flawed perfection…

We are uncut jewels…

We are unlimited potential bounded by procrastination…

We are unfocused beams of light…

We are heedlessly spinning moons, attracted to bright stars, lacking only the fire needed to become suns ourselves…

We are drama bracketed by boredom…

We are the writer, the actors on the stage, and we are the audience…

We are who and what we are, yet troubled by the notion that can never be enough…

We are proud yet unsure, kind but selfish, brilliant and obtuse, insightful and clueless, generous and greedy, wise and foolish…

We are multitudes who often feel alone.

We are the eye of the hurricane, the center of the universe, and being such, it is easy to feel that everything is happening around us but that somehow, we are not as big a part of it as we wish to be. Bear in mind, child, that you are not just the hub of the wheel. You are the axel that turns the wheels of destiny. You are the cart that carries the load of history. You are the wheel that follows the path to the future. And you are the road that leads us all to where we need to be.

Things that can go horribly wrong when you take photos… part 12…

Technically, the only thing wrong with this picture is that the subject… me… is a little off center. But the thing that really went horribly wrong here is me…

The picture is in focus, the background is lovely. My daughter took a very nice photo. But there I am, being goofy again.

I don’t really have any advice on how to solve this problem, other than to say that you can try asking goofy people not to be so goofy, but I know that never works on me… so…

If you know someone like me, just let the goofy happen… and then delete the pictures when they aren’t looking.

Things that can go horribly wrong when you take photos… part 11…

We have talked about focus, and about what happens when your camera is moving too fast to take a good picture… like when you are in a car… but now, let’s talk about motion blur. That is when you are trying to take a picture of something that is moving… like a baby… when you are bouncing him on the couch.

Even a small amount of motion can cause the blur. You can use this to take some awesome pictures. If you take a photo of a person running in front of something, like trees, for example, and you keep the camera still, the person will be blurred, but not the trees. I mean, this can also depend on how you focus the camera too, but you see what I mean. If, however, you move the camera to follow the running person, then the person will be in focus but the background will be blurry.

I suggest you practice these techniques… but maybe not on a baby that is bouncing up and down towards and away from the camera… because in that case, your camera has no idea what you are trying do.
