How in the world, I hear you asking yourself, did you ever get 35,976 comments on one post? Well, I’m glad you asked… Ha, see what I did there…

It started off simply enough. We were talking about stats, either here or on someone else’s blog, and someone asked me about the most comments I ever got on a single post. I wasn’t sure, so I looked at the ‘top posts and pages’ thing on my sidebar. I was amazed to find that I had two posts that each had over 1,000 comments.

And that got me thinking… you know… like stuff does… and I began to wonder what the record for the most comments on a single blog post was…. and I mean a personal, nonprofessional blog not run by a celebrity or corporation.

In the meantime, I started a post and just asked all my blog buddies to comment there for a while just for fun. But then things got weird… as things do here… We tried to find out what the record was. But for some reason, WordPress, to this day, is unable or unwilling to tell us what that magic number actually is. They keep track of all these other stats, but claim that they have no way to know what we wanted to know.

Other bloggers who are not computer morons did some searching and found a few posts that had 12,000 or so comments. The funny thing is, they were all really negative, obnoxious posts that went viral… and the comments were almost all from people telling the author what a jerk they were. We do ours with love.

While this was going on, we just kept having fun. We invented the world’s first chat room on a blog post. People stopped by and did rants and comedy routines. Bored people came in and just did weird stuff… because I have the most awesome commenters on the planet!!! We had a contest to see who could pretend to seduce themselves in the funniest manner… I still claim I won that one. We have written poetry together. We have had word games and just been silly. And you can just go and reply to old comments made by random people, and you will meet some awesome new blog friends.

We even contacted the people at the Guinness Book Of World’s Records… but they also say they do not keep a record for single blog posts, only for most comments on a single blog… which is run by some Japanese guy and has over ten million…
