I live in a desert. Southern California is a desert, despite the palm trees and beaches. But it is sort of a boring desert. The hills are covered with short, dry, crackly brush and a few boring types of cacti. But Arizona has some real desert…
See the big hill behind that big cactus? We took a walk to the top of that.
And I have to say that is was awe-inspiring.
Although like any good desert, there are plants you want to be careful of.
There always seemed to be some spectacular mountain range in the distance.
And don’t let me forget to tell you about the big saguaro cacti. There is more going on inside them than you might suspect.
I wasn’t expecting to climb a small mountain. I am glad I have been going to the gym.
But if you are going to walk in the desert, it is more fun to do it in a real desert.
The view from the top was awesome. It was worth the climb.
Once again, if you live somewhere that is covered in snow, you will either appreciate these pictures or hate them… but I should warn you that there are more pictures coming… so…

I’m looking forward to see pictures of that dessert !
It is coming soon.
Gorgeous. Plain deserts aren’t my thing…but one with hills, maybe. Very cool
Wait for the end…
The Colorado desert of southern California is actually part of the Sonoran desert. Arizona is the only state that contains all four of the desert types indingenous to North America. The Chihuahuan Desert stretches from southern Arizona deep into central Mexico. I was fortunate to be driving through it in central Mexico during a rare snow storm many years ago. Sometimes you just get lucky.
I have seen a lot of desert. You can’t go anywhere from here without seeing it. It has a lot of moods.
The pic from the top of the mountain was awesome.
Needs elephants and cobras…
Not really…
uh, yeah.
Love the saguaro cacti, and Wow what an awesome view from the top! I love the sky – and all those rays coming down out of the sun… Fantastic walk. Thanks for sharing! I feel like climbing a hill… soon…
Wait till the last posts about the trip.
I am waiting in eager anticipation. Trying not to dribble…
Ah, a rock lover.
Mmm. Especially sun-warmed ones, they are very cuddly.
You sound like a lizard…
Oh, to be an iguana, a rocksteady tuatara.
A lizard, a gecko, in sunny Tijuana.
(Sung in Reptilian, and half in Brazilian)
Half Brazilian… ha!
Now now….!
You started it.
When I started, I finished. No half measures here.
Besides lemon and tonic.
whee
🙂
Class
That is not a word I am familiar with…
great pics !
Thanks.
pft 😉
You just wish you had a desert.
I lived in one for 2 years 🙂
That’s cool… I mean hot… ha
Ha yeah it was and right across the street from the beach and 10 mins. down the road from the mountains we hiked in three times a week. I miss it!
The beach takes some of the dryness out of a desert. It is like a subdivision of the desert, sort of.
kind of but it didn’t seem like it did much
You know when you go to real desert.
oh yeah been there too. all through US
I like some kinds of desert but not all of them.
i agree 🙂
Of course you do.
of course i do
uh, yes.
uh huh
uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhhu
