I am going to try to do the NaNoWriMo write a whole novel in one month thing… so if I seem even more distracted than usual, it is only because I am… not because the crack squirrels are on a binge.
And I am already starting late. But so many of you have encouraged me to do this, and my daughter Jessica, who helped me publish my science fiction novel but has never read it… because let’s face it, not everyone likes science fiction… not even funny, action adventure science fiction… told me if I wrote something outside my comfort zone she would read it.
So I am going to write a murder mystery set in World War Two London. I don’t know exactly how this NaNoWriMo thing works, but I hope there is some way that some of you can watch my progress and give me feedback.
Oh, and Mollie went on her first date to a high school dance, and I am still a little freaked out about that, but I got over it with Jessica, so…

You can go to: https://nanowrimo.org/ to get the badge & the api so you can update your daily total of words. I’m way behind too because of a migraine on Sunday & messed up doctor’s appointment on Monday, but I’m slugging along. So don’t expect me here too often during November.
Okay… does that mean you can put chapters up in the thing and have people look at them?
I don’t know Art, you need someone more practiced at this to answer your questions.
I got those…
This should be for the challenge, Arthur. Just get the ideas down on paper, revise later. I do the NaNoWriMo for a change of pace. I have series books to write, but I take the time out in November to write something I might not normally take the time to write. 😀 For me, it has been a great experience and I plan to do it every year. Just tackle it as something fun to do. Post it or don’t, it’s up to you. Achieve the goal or not, it’s up to you as well. I didn’t make it last year, but made a good dent in a genre I have never written before. Same with this year…but I’m off to a better start than last year. lol
I am going to give it my best shot… ha… murder mystery joke!
Bahahaha!
I am excited for this
Me too.
This is the book that explains nanowrimo. It tells the story of the guy who started the whole thing–how he decided to write a novel in a month–and tells you little tips to get past writer’s block, etc, and what expectations to have for the month–like no editing allowed. Just pure writing. Editing can come later if you like. The point is just to pour it all out. You already do that!
Thanks… I am ready… sort of…
I did it a few years ago, no problemo. You already write a ton of words a day, so it’ll be a breeze for someone like you. It’ll be fun!
I can’t even figure out how to get to where you type at… I started it, did a cover, an blub… now what???
Sign up at NaNoWriMo.org. You can post excerpts and update your word count, etc. if you don’t want to post here. Good luck!
Can I put parts of it on the blog? Isn’t that like a conflict of interest or something???
Nope. It’s a “teaser” 🙂 Think of your blog as that freebie on Amazon where you get the first two chapters of a book for free and it sucks you in to buying the whole book. Which sometimes ends up being total shit because the author spent three years honing Chapter One and neglected the rest of the book. Not you, of course. Not me, either. But some authors…
So I should just post the first 2 or 3 chapters maybe?
Or little pieces from lots of chapters, or your favorite lines, or your favorite scenes, whatever. Post a sentence a day and you’re also doing NaBloPoMo 🙂
That sounds dirty…
There are no limitations on genre…
ha… I can’t even figure out where to start typing the words… I did a cover and a blurb…
You don’t write the actual novel there, just upload at the end to verify your word count. Scrivener is a good program and they’re running a Trial Special right now. It’s the top thread in the forums…
Can I just do it in Microsoft word?
Yup. You only upload to verify your word count and get your “winner” badge at the end. How and where you write is up to you.
So there is no ongoing feedback at all… what is the upside of all this?
You get feedback the way you normally do, but not thru the NaNo people. It’s not a feedback thing, it’s a “puke up 50,000 words and get started on that novel you always wanted to write” thing.
But I already wrote 4 novels…
Yay for Mollie and NaNoWriMo!
Kick me in the butt now and then… please… I promise I will click on something blue…
