This may be the hardest thing I ever typed on this blog…

But I am seriously considering unfollowing a few of you.

I know, I am not happy about it either. But I try to read and comment on every blog posted by people I follow… and some of you have stopped visiting me in return. I feel like we have reached sort of a one-way point in our relationship.

And the thing is… there is always a thing, you know… that I have a lot of new followers since that last time you commented on one of my posts. And I can’t follow everybody that I like, but if I cleared a little room in my schedule… and on the reader list… I could add a few more of these people.

I am sorry it has come to this. My only other option, to let you know how much I miss your comments, is to just hit the like button on your posts instead of doing comments. I have started doing that to a few of you. But somehow that just seems more cruel than ending it clean.

I guess, if you aren’t coming here any more, that you will not see this post. So it might come as a shock when I leave you. I hope you understand that it isn’t personal. There is only so much time in a day. We had a good thing… I will miss you… It isn’t you… it’s me…

I think we should see other people…

  1. I follow very few, and hate life without the laptop…making building relationships extremely difficult. Ever tried to type a post with ONE FINGER on an iPod? I don’t recommend it!

Back on topic for a moment. Yeah, I know. Really? I was just thinking how revealing a list of the sites we frequent in the blogoshpere would be. This site and my participation here is not at all typical of where I spend most of my time (well, not intentionally anyway). I hardly ever read fiction. Most of my reading is for educational purposes with a small mix of how-to stuff. You are the 20% side of the application of the Pareto rule in my blog slogging life. I come here for companionship, stress relief, entertainment and the mental challenge of the game of the day with all the other followers. It is the only site I come to to be both frivolous and serious in the same place. I suppose that makes this site my blogging vice if you will, and I know you will.

    • I think being called a vice may just be my proudest moment in blogging. I do try to fill a weird nitch… or I fell into it… why is nitch ot recognized by the spell checker??? I do funny stuff that requires no thought to enjoy. But I do stuff that I think people really should think long and hard about… even if I can’t be bothered to… and then there is the actual sharing of art and music, so throw some passion into the mix… and the stories of my life to add a little humanity if not a drop of humility…
crap, I need to do a post about how awesome this blog really is… Thanks, bro!

I hope I’m not one of those you choose to stop following, you’re my most prolific commenter! I can’t always get to your blog every day because, like you, I try to follow so many of the people who follow me & my time is limited too. What I do now is try to read some posts every day & I will read about 4 or 5 posts from a particular blogger all at the same time. It’s not because I’m not interested, it’s because I’ve run out of time. (besides being hugely distracted by having Kelvin still home all day every day).

Don’t forget that people have private lives demanding attention, events unfold that are not meant for publicizing. Blogging is supposed to be fun not another dreary obligation.

  5. I follow lots of people who have probably never come to my site. And lots of people follow me whose sites I’ve never visited. Such is the way of social media.

Yikes, I hope I got caught up just in time.

  7. Funny how online relationships can mimic real life relationships. Friendship is a two way street!

I blogged about this last month, and whined about how the blogging world is too reciprocal. Are we only reading and commenting on other blogs to get comments back?

  10. Hemin's avatar Hemin Adel says:

Keep up writing .I’ll comment on your posts anymore .

Funny… I am finding it easier to write on other people’s blogs than my own! ha! These are the blogs I graffiti: Yours, Trenton Babbage’s, Opinionated Man’s, and C.p.Singleton’s. Don’t ask me why I don’t visit girls. Must’ve been brought up in an odd sort of treehut.

  12. PANIC COMMENTS – I have barely begun writing and already people are contemplating unfollowing me. Gasp. I just want to use this opportunity to say that I really enjoy your blog and every single word you have ever written in it. period. On a related note, I really don’t think this is the hardest thing you have ever had to write. not criticizing. just saying……..

  13. LMAO… love it. Do what you have to do! 🙂

I’m not going to ‘ like’ this post out of sheer rebelion. Ha heh hehe take that you revolutionary

:’-( I just spent my entire day consoling a friend who is going through a break. Then I come home and read this? Sorry, Art.

I didn’t realize you were taking attendance, Professor Browne. I’ll be more diligent in the Art class participation 🙂
Personally, I follow a lot of blogs that don’t follow or visit me back, and I’m not really bothered by that. (But it’s nice when they do, I admit that).

  17. I totally understand where you are coming from! For this very reason I hopped off of Facebook!!!

    • Thanks… some people seem to think that I meant that I would start kicking people out who don’t comment. I am not aiming this at my followers unless I also follow them and comment on their stuff by they never show up here any more… this was very specific venting on a very small group of people… maybe I should just do my thinking inside my own head…

  18. This was a very deep, thoughtful post. I like it much.
I think it is one thing that will always happen to our blogromance. People will come and after a bite, get away with a taste of you, never to remember again. Just that moment of a quickie is all they need. It happens to many of us. I follow less than three new blogs over week. You must be surprised you still appear on my last 20 blogs followed, and you know when I started following you.
Also, I have given up on craving folk ownership when people do not really participate. It makes me ask for a redefinition of followership.
I know you will always be on my list of favourited blogs as long as I can squeeze out time. But, as you may well know, I never get time to go round all your numerous posts. Apologies.

  19. suzjones's avatar suzjones says:

I follow so many blogs. I try to read as much as I can in the time I allocate before leaving for the day to work at my full-time job. Sometimes I just ‘like’ because I can’t think of anything to say.
You do what you think is the best thing for you 🙂

  20. Jen and her cats's avatar rumpydog says:

Sorry, but I simply do not have the time to visit your blog regularly. Was nice to have met you!

    • NO! I am not talking about people who visit me and don’t always comment… or miss some or even most of my posts… I am just talking to people that I follow that used to read my stuff. I am sure that some of them still stop by, but they don’t comment on mine and I do comment on theirs… I would rather make time and room for following more of your blogs.

  21. Alastair's avatar Al says:

I follow over 700 blogs. Some never post. Some never visit. I know I can’t visit everyone, but I do try to rota my visits so that I get to see everyone. I may have to unfollow people who I visit but they never come to see me as well.

  22. Jeanette's avatar NotAPunkRocker says:

I go through these phases where I clean out my follow-list, only to add twice as many people back. Which gives me less time to browse and comment, until I start the process all over again.

Not that I’m making a excuse or anything. 🙂

  23. Trent Lewin's avatar Trent Lewin says:

Pick me! PIck me! Just kidding. I think I will write about this wonderful phenomenon, which appears to have morphed into a slew of followers that never comment ever about anything. Expectations are like bedbugs. They’re impossible to get rid of but they itch like crazy.

Anyway, you have one of the most entertaining blogs out there, but this blog world is about the me and the now, and many aspects to it appear to be without much substance. It appeals to our latent sense of mathematics, I think, and calls to action our innate desire to collect. Something insidious runs through the halls of this place, wearing an ugly mask that might in fact be real. I’m just saying you know. It is almost Halloween after all.
