This might be a boring post if you are living on a farm in the middle of America. I took some photos of our trip to the county fair. The weird Al concert was awesome. But I do love to see the animals….
These two pigs were sleeping snout to snout in two pens. They looked so much alike that it was like looking at one pig sleeping in front of a mirror.
Little snuggly pigs. How cute is that?
Two little goat friends taking a nap.
There is something uniquely American about a county fair. Being a city boy who loves animals, I always enjoy this part of the fair.
Mollie got to pet a little lamb.
And I made friends with a nice cow.
We watched the turkey races. They chased after a little remote-controlled truck full of food.
Then they let the younger turkeys have a go. They are not smart birds. When the truck stopped quickly, some of them ran right on past and then circled back.
But that was sort of fun to watch.
We also watched some pigs racing to see who could get to the Oreo cookie first.
And we saw little Swifty, the swimming piglet. The funny part about the pig show is that if you turned around from where we were sitting, this is the view the pigs have all day…
Pork chop on a stick. Right in front of the pig races. You gotta love America. And I have to admit that I get it. When I go to Sea World, I like to order a fish sandwich for lunch. We went to an ostrich farm once and fed the ostriches. And then I bought a package of ostrich jerky. I like to tie in my food with what I am doing. It makes the whole experience sort of three-dimensional.

Were you telling these animals your stories? They were all asleep!
Ha! It is because they love and trust me.
Also, turkeys may well be the stupidest creatures to ever live… Chickens are right behind ’em for the most part.
We now have huge wild turkeys wandering all over California. It is a new development.
Lucky you! They’re funny to watch, though I could see it becoming a problem if they start wandering into the road…
At my mom’s house in the Bay Area, there are deer and turkeys roaming the streets.
I love the fair! We live on a farm and I still love walking through the barns.Just watch where you step!
I love farms. I worked on a tobacco farm in Kentucky, and we have relatives who grow corn in Iowa.
They’re pretty cool… We only have chickens so we don’t have to deal with the nasty smell of some animals, thank goodness.
I have smelled chicken and turkey farms. On a hot day… that is just wrong.
I should clarify that we don’t have enough birds to make it smelly. You’re right, chicken and turkey poop can be rather foul (haha, get it?).
Ha, indeed.
We have wild turkeys here on Hippy Hill. They are just the most ridiculous creatures, totally stupid, running all around crashing through the woods looking all prehistoric. We can’t expect much from those teeny tiny heads.
We have those at my mom’s house.
Looks like a fun day, and you’re nuts!
What about my nuts???
Well if you’re a nut, then there must have been a nut store around..
I store mine in a tree.
so you’re typing this from the the tree?
Well… yeah…
i thought so
I’m sure you did.
Was the ostrich jerky any good?
Not bad.
