Stats… I guess some people just like to watch…

In those new and improved two-tone bars on the stats page, WordPress shows you your views and your visitors. Can anybody tell me what that actually means? Are people viewing without visiting? How do they even do that? Obviously visiting shows a deeper level of interest. I mean, when people come to ‘visit’ me at my house, I like it a lot better than if they just stand outside and stare at me. But what exactly do those terms mean in the blogging world?

I would be ever so grateful if you could clear up this mystery for me.

OK, so if I follow you on a regular basis, I don’t show up as a view on your stats page because I’m a visitor? The views are new people looking in?

I prefer to stand on the door step and peer through the screen door; I can’t commit to coming inside.

  4. Do we need to offer them a cuppa? Good Geek answered your questions and one I’ve been wondering about! Thanks for clearing this up!

  5. a view is just that, a page was viewed. the visitors, according to WordPress themselves, is a count of how many NEW people visited your site. note, New. So they have never been there before, so I should never show up as a visitor from my home computer or if I’m logged in to WordPress as I am here a lot.

Views = How many different webpages were loaded total by all of your visitors

Visitors = How many different people visited
