Are we really going to start picking our next president based on who yells the loudest insults while posturing, flexing their muscles, and bragging about how strong they are? Are we reduced to sitting in the bleachers, eating bad food and drinking over-priced beer while cheering some Neanderthal… (my apologies, Neanderthals)… as he goes through a choreographed, staged, and rehearsed pseudo-combat where he pretends to destroy someone playing the part of stereotype villain?

Has the show replaced the substance entirely?

I want to expect more from you, America.

ZOOm lens… part 6…

Well, we are nearing the end of this series of posts about my trip to the zoo with little miss Olivia… and my zoom lens…

(Okay, I like that picture… I usually delete the ones that have too much reflection on the windows, but the reflection of the stairs and metal railing sort of adds an artistic touch, if you ask me)…

ZOOm lens… part 6… (or); I tot I taw a putty tat…

The zoom lens allowed me to get some really good shots of the big cats…

I love that I can now see the cats closer in these pictures than I could when I was standing there taking the pictures.

I also like the way his mouth was always hanging open when he paced back and forth.

I did have to take the zoom lens off and put the regular lens on for some of these… like that sleepy snow leopard.

Snow leopards are cool…

This snow leopard was having a little snack… hopefully that is a cow leg…

Sorry these are washed out… it was reflection from the glass… but he was right on the other side of the window.

That one is a little depressing to me. It reminds me of the days when zoos just had little, cement-floored cages for these animals.

Now the enclosures are so big that I had to zoom all the way in to get this picture of a sleepy mountain lion.

I did not, however, need the zoom lens to capture this photo of a sleepy Olivia.

We also saw the polar bears…

I love watching them swim, but unfortunately, even the zoom lens can’t take good pictures through glass and murky water.

So… yeah… babysitting little miss Olivia, the daughter of some friends of ours… went to the zoo… brought the zoom lens this time…

Saw pygmy hippos…

Saw a zebra…

… got up close and personal…

The maned wolf is a little blurry because he was pacing at a pretty good pace…

That elephant was pretty far away… good thing I had the zoom…

Yeah, I feel bad about it… but I have to stand by my decision that the birds were the least exciting animals that little Olivia and I saw on our trip to the zoo today… so they get posted first… so I can build to a crescendo…

Except that, when I looked at the photos, I realized that these birds look like little devil birds…

I mean, when were there with them and standing a few yards away, they were adorable… but when I looked at the full-sized photos… and cropped them… they now look like little flying demon rats… coated with oil…
