So… uh… I went up by nine followers over the last week… and now I am back where I started…

(or); Okay, I admit it… the ways of the WordPress Overlords are far beyond my meager understanding…

**********

The way I figure it… and, once again, in the spirit of full disclosure, I am a computer moron… but this is due to one (or more) of the following factors;

1. I am not as funny as I like to think I am and people are beginning to figure that out…

2. WordPress has the people who follow you on Twitter and the people who follow you by email linked to your main blog follower stats, and maybe some of those people left…

3. WordPress, every now and then, goes through the list of people who are no longer blogging, and removes all traces of them, including listing them as followers…

4. All the new people who started following me realized that this is no place for a sane, rational human being to hang out, and they fled screaming…

5. WordPress has suddenly realized that once I reach that magic number of 3,000 followers, my goal to take over the universe using a humor blog is becoming too close to an achievable reality and they panicked and just started messing with the numbers, and also they know that once I do reach the 3,000 follower mark they have to start taking me seriously and give me credit for the invention of the first blog/chat room… also known as ‘that post where we are trying to set the record for the most comments ever on a WordPress post’ post… (you can go to that post and leave a comment along with the 43,894 other comments by clicking the blue words [the link] over there at the top of the sidebar… and they have peevishly decided to just delete the new follower records so that I stay forever trapped, fluctuating up and down between 2,990 and 2,999 followers.

I am going to assume that number 5 is the reason until someone can convince me otherwise.

    Trent is back! We need to invent/invite some friends and neighbors to follow you. There must be 9 people out there somewhere.

    I’ll go with No. 5. Because it’s my favorite number (I’m 5th child of two 5th children). So it must be right.

    (It never pays to pay attention to stats. They screw with your mind and that is all).

  4. You’re pretty funny. If anybody stopped following you they were probably teeth-grindingly jealous and decided to stop tormenting themselves, or else they don’t get you and as such are unworthy of any notice. I would be interested in how you plan to take over the universe with a humor blog. I would not steal your plans, being blessed with a lack of ambition myself. However, I will understand if you decline to share them and will merely watch as events transpire.

    Numbers go up and down on WordPress so often I lose track…they’re probably just playing with our brains. 😉
