I wasn’t planning on doing a corny post about things I am thankful for…

But I woke up this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, and as I mulled over ideas for a post about writer’s block, I was swept away by a sudden powerful feeling of just how lucky I was to be a stay at home dad. I got to watch my daughters grow, to say their first words and take their first steps. I got to laugh and play with them, teach them art and music. I made silly sounds and did goofy stuff just to see those smiles. And I taught them about the world. I showed them flowers and dew drops and sunsets and beaches. I held them and helped them through small pains and the flu.

My daughters are awesome and strong and beautiful, and I am a very lucky man.

I’d love to do this, but just look after my cat

I didn’t know that you are a stay-at-home dad. That’s nice. I wasn’t and, back in the day, I traveled a lot for my job, which meant that I was not around for my kids for a lot of what you experienced with your daughters. Now I’m a work-at-home dad, but my kids are all grown up and out on their own.

Well said Art – see, one post a year is all it really takes to honestly say it’s not all about you – you can rest assured. Bwahahaha!

  11. No writer’s block there after all.
