Time to say goodbye to Willie…

At least until the next time we see him… which shouldn’t be too long…

There is nothing like sitting on the floor and playing with a kid, is there? But don’t worry, as much as we are all going to miss the little guy, we will see him again soon… because something awesome and magical happened on that walk after we finally got Willie to go to sleep in his stroller.

My wife was walking ahead with Eva, Willie’s mom, who was pushing Willie. Big Johnny, Willie’s dad, was walking behind them with my younger daughter, Mollie.

I was falling behind having an interesting conversation with my older daughter, Jessica. She said she had realized that she didn’t know anything about how America got involved in the Vietnam war. I love history, so I was giving here the highlights. I was also trying to beg her to read my post about the history of the Jewish people and the Gaza strip.

All of a sudden, up ahead, my wife burst into tears.

We rushed up to see what was wrong.

Eva had just told her that they had decided to make my wife and I Godparents to Willie… and not the honorary kind… I mean, like if anything happens to them, we are supposed to raise Willie as our own.

Can I even describe how awesome this is? They said that they had been talking about it for months, and, in the end,  it all really came down to the fact that they love us… and we raised to two sweetest, smartest, kindest, wisest, most loving kids they had ever met… and they wanted Willie to have that kind of family if they weren’t there to do it themselves.

What do you say to someone who tells you they trust you enough to raise their child? I mean, Johnny has known my wife since they were young. But Eva has only known us a little more than two years. Remember the pictures of their Western Wedding I shared way back then?

So… yeah… I am still sort of tripping…

Anyway… uh… sniff… here are a couple of pictures I took out of the car window as we drove back through San Francisco to cross the Bay Bridge and return to my mom’s house…

We were all still sort of in shock. Yes, I could have rotated that picture, but that is the angle I took it at, and I like it that way. Jessica had grabbed the front seat… my wife doesn’t like to be  a passenger when we drive in traffic… because Jessica claims she gets car sick. I think she just likes the view, but either way I couldn’t use the sunroof to take these pictures.

There, I flipped that one for you. So, as I said, we will see Willie soon, because they are coming to San Diego soon to do an actual ceremony at my wife’s church. To make it all official and religious and whatnot. They don’t have their own church. And you know I am not really big on organized religions. But maybe that is the place for this to happen.

Because a little angel should feel right at home in a church, right?
