On our last full day in Arizona, we took a day trip to Sedona. We had to drive through two or three hours of your everyday desert and a few million saguaro cacti… and you know you are in the real desert when every rest area has this sign posted…
I have to admit that I was not all that excited by the idea of seeing more big rocks. I love nature, but once you see Yosemite and Bryce and Zion and the Grand Canyon, you think nature is going to have a hard time impressing you.
Then we started seeing some really nice rock formations in the distance…
We stopped at the visitors information center and I could already see why the Apaches thought of this land as sacred. I made this picture a little bigger so you can click on it and maybe read the Apache words for the rock formations…
It sort of pisses me off that we not only stole their land, but we changed all the names too.
I was getting pretty excited by this point. If the view from the entrance to the valley was this good, I knew we were going to see some incredible scenery.
I wish I could describe the colors… the scale… cameras just don’t capture the true feel of a place.
All I can say is that if you ever have a chance, you should go to Sedona.

I had to stop by and see your Sedona pictures. Looks like you had a great time in my home town.
I was sort of thinking that once you see Yosemite, Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand canyon, that big rocks couldn’t impress you much, but I was wrong. We will be back.
Sedona is definitely on my list for when I visit USA.
Red Butte? LOL
Do these red pants make my butte look big?
In the photo, the big one, the Indian name for one of the mountains is Red Butte. I’m amazed you missed that…
It feels weird, saying ‘Indian name’
That whole mix up with ‘Indian’ has never really been fixed.
Did you spot the Red Butte?
Yes… I knew it was there. My family makes butte jokes whenever we see a sign by the highway. and there are a lot of big buttes in America.
those Indians had good reason to fight over their land, great pictures
