He has flipped over the slimy rock of the American psyche, and shown us what lives in the constant darkness and muck down below… he has turned on the lights in a cockroach-infested kitchen… and this time, the roaches aren’t scurrying away… they are just staring at us with a: ‘yeah, what the hell do you want?’ look on their little faces.
I could do more metaphors… it is sort of fun… but let’s move on to the point. Win or lose, Trump has exposed to the world a very dark side of America, and we can never undo that. Trump says horrible, hateful, racist things… and his followers eat it up. There is a frightening ‘us-against-them’ undertone to it. They don’t just feel that they are right and the other side is wrong… they want the people who disagree with them to be ‘locked up’ or even ‘shot’. What the heck?
And they aren’t even being vague about it anymore. There is no hidden meaning. The meaning is right there. They want America to return to the days when ‘they’ were in charge, and everyone else knew it.
Even if Trump drops out today, these people are all still here. We need to fix this, but I have no idea how to go about that. Our experiment with ‘political correctness’ might have caused these people not to say some of the things they think out loud, but it didn’t make them stop thinking them. And now, we have given up even that small victory.
To be honest, I don’t think you can fix racism, bigotry, small-mindedness, sexism, or stupidity. I suspect that we will just have to keep evolving, raising better children each generation, and wait for these people to become extinct… but remember… they are raising children too… and taking them to Trump rallies…

Excellent–this is exactly how it is. Trump our blacklight
