After I met the Doobster… well, I was still in San Francisco…

So, I admit that meeting a blog friend in real life is a bit intimidating. I mean before it happens, you run through all the things that could go wrong. It could be dangerous… or, even worse… boring. And I figured that as long as I was going to be in San Francisco anyway, maybe I could see Willie and Big Johnny and Eva, so I called them the day before.

Big Johnny… that is Willie’s dad, and a long time friend for those of you who are new… (don’t worry, you will get to know all about them soon enough, because I still have the hundreds of pictures that Mollie and I took with our new Christmas camera to get through)… anyway, Big Johnny said he could meet me after Willie went down for a nap.

Doobster had to be somewhere and left about 3 minutes before John showed up… they almost met each other. But it was not destined to be… however, Big Johnny and I decided to go bar hopping… oh yeah we did…

Once again, a nice lady used my camera to take this picture… not the same nice lady… there are at least two nice ladies in San Francisco.

My plan was to take a picture of each bar that we went to… but remember, I don’t drink that much anymore… and I already had a beer with the Doobster…

So I have three pictures of the first place we went in, and none of the other 3… or maybe 4… although I do know we got closer and closer to the Tenderloin district and the streets got scarier and less safe… I mean, even scary for two huge guys who are street wise and carry themselves well….

Somewhere on our way from the nice part of town to the not-so-nice part, I took that picture through the window of an art gallery that had weird Doctor Seuss stuff in it…

And that picture of a sushi restaurant… because I love the fake sushi they put in the windows… I saw a show on the travel channel about the company in Japan that makes all the rubber sushi… totally awesome.

Anyway, I got pretty hammered. I remember we went to some dive bars. And then we went to some yuppie-hipster bar that had too much chrome and beer that tasted like somebody wrung out some of that sour grass we used to chew on when we were kids.

Then I stumbled back onto a BART train that was way too crowded and met a college kid whose parents own a pub right near my mom’s house on the other side of the bay… HA!

I actually went there for a beer on New Year’s Eve.

I love the chrome shark! I think art galleries (non-traditional ones) are great places to figure out what you like!

You know, I think it’s a grand idea. I’ve done how to meetup blogs before with tips I’ve learned along the way, I haven’t done one on this blog site yet, might be time to do another one.

Whew. I’m almost 6′ tall, but between you and Big Johnny, had I stuck around for that additional three minutes between when I left and when he arrived, I would have felt like a real shorty.
