Words are so powerful. They exist only as puffs of air and the vibrations of our vocal chords that transmit sound waves that react with the eardrums of other human beings. And yet words are so much more. They encapsulate everything that we are as human beings. They help us spread ideas and concepts. Organized society could not exist without us working together, and words allow us to do that. They let us pass knowledge down through the ages.
They are tools… and they are weapons. They can spread love and joy, or hate and violence. Words are how we reach out into the world around us and connect with other people. Words, in and of themselves, are nothing. But they represent real things, real emotions, real events, real history, real reality. And they allow us to conceive of the future and create things and beings and places that do not actually exist. As a humor/action/adventure science fiction writer, I am in awe of this.
Words can uplift and build and words can mutilate and destroy. They can crush feelings and start wars. Words are like bullets in that once you aim them and release them at a target, they can never be recalled.
So choose your words with care, my friends…

Impressive assessment PMAO.
thanks
whoooo… boy
Reblogged this on benzeknees and commented:
These posts first appeared on Pouring My Art Out in November, 2014 but they are so appropriate for what is happening in our world now!
Re-blog this tomorrow, after the debacle in France. I already re-blogged your previous post. These are very powerful words & need to be said now, again!
you do it… I am doing stuff about the thing
Love this post.
awww…. shucks…
That’s why I don’t use too many of them.
Well and shortly said
You are really going into some deep, serious posts, I like this side of you Art, but I also like your other side, and your other side… This post brings to mind: “The pen is mightier than the sword.” – Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton
Thanks…. I try to mix things up… Plus I have no idea what I am going to say until I start typing usually.
🙂 🙂 🙂
Wheeeeeee
nice… 🙂
Deep thoughts, Art. Way to put it into words.
oh… I did use words to do that, didn’t I?
I know some words. I prefer to use nice ones mostly.
Me too… even in that ISIS post, I couldn’t bring myself to swear.
And written words are just…… written. Not powerful.
Not unless you combine them correctly.
I disagree strongly. Written words have so much power. Think of the billions of people who base their entire lives on written text of their religion of choice.
I can go both ways on this
I agree with you. We are all writing and reading written words here in the blogosphere. I dare not insinuate written words amount to nothing.
I was playing around with the fact that LMAO seemed to focus on spoken words. Hence my subtle remark. It was that subtle because it was LMAO. And, even so, I didn’t think he thought nothing of written words. Just our own way of jesting. Pardon the confusion.
It’s okay, but I think you mean PMAO. 😉
Hahahaha! Yep! Another thing we got!
yay
I answer to either… ha
we do jest, Shirley, we do… HA!
Very sensitive and appreciated message. Thank you.

Here’s a link (related to your wanting to publish post) that might interest you, which I found from a new follower of my blog, who works as an editor. Do you suppose that her hint to me that i need an editor?
I will have to look into that… especially the ‘what writing expenses are tax deductible’…
What does that say about text speak 😉
not a lot.
Thank you Art.
uh… sure…
Nicely said, Art.
yay
