Anybody interested in doing a little editing?

I am trying to self-edit the third book in my action/adventure/humor science fiction series: The Otherwhere Chronicles. The very first chapter is giving me problems. It is the one that contains an alien that learned to speak English by listening to Monty Python’s Flying Circus broadcasts on the BBC. He can only speak in lines from Monty Python skits. You might recall that I have been in contact with Eric Idle for permission to use this material.

But it is sort of a tricky thing to edit. And I am not good at editing. The good news is that it is only three pages long.

So it you want to take a crack at it, please let me know.

Not sure I have the time, really, but I’ll give it a go–

  2. Also happy to help out with editing. I am not a professional editor of fiction but I wrote and edit some mean research papers.

    • ooohhh…. as I have said, I can’t afford to pay for editing. I am going to let a few people try the first chapter, and if we are all on the same page… uh… so to speak… we can all do parts of it or whatever. All I can offer are free signed copies and a mention in the front pages… with a link to blogs… oh, and I can do some fun stuff for you on my blog, and also I can write all of you into book five… book four is already written.

  3. Freaking learning English from Monty Python! That is brilliant. Please please let me know when your book is done so I can buy a copy. (Do you have an email list? Put me on it!!!) Haha. You had me at Monty. Following.

I thought it went without saying, but maybe that was only in my head… I would be happy to help you with whatever, whenever. I am not sure what “editing” is really, technically. My interp of it is watching for typos, and grammatical errors. I read at an early age and loved it, so I was pretty good at English, but only because I knew how sentences were supposed to sound. I could tell something was wrong, but not so much the basics. I could fix it, but couldn’t tell you that the dangling participle was something….

Looks like I missed out on a GREAT opportunity! 😦 I’d have loved to help… I can spot a typo a hundred miles away and have a knack for helping things sound “right”. (Plus I’m funny, so… that.) If you’re looking for someone with an English degree, sorry – but I have helped many folks at work with college degrees sound professional (and my birthday-photo “memes” crack people up) and even helped one with his term paper.

I can’t help it but your “007” pic in your slideshow thingie keeps fooling me into thinking Lord Petyr Baelish got snapped at a costume party… 😉

I never completed my english requirement in 3 attempts at college, and I have never had anything published. But I Am a Monty Python fanatic, so, sure, why not? Hand over the lupines!
