I have some good news and some bad news… wait… I guess it is really just bad news…

I heard back from the people at Guinness Book Of World Records… you know… about our attempt to break the record for the most comments on one single blog post… on that post we now have 34,258 comments on… the one you can get to by clicking the link over there in my sidebar…

This is what the GBOWR people had to say, copied directly from their email to me:

Dear Mr Arthur Browne,

Thank you for your application to attempt a record you describe as ‘Most comments on a single blog post’.

Your record proposal cannot be accepted in this form.

However, it is very similar to an existing record that Guinness World Records monitors and you are welcome to attempt it as an alternative to your suggestion.

The record is: ’Most comments on a personal blog’.

Please note that your application is now for breaking the record Most comments on a personal blog and you will have to meet all criteria in the attached guidelines to break this record. If you are not interested in breaking this record, please ignore this email.

The current record (current as at the date of this letter) is:
The most comments on a blog is 10,207,946, which were posted in the official blog of Yusuke Kamiji (Japan), between 21 June 2007 and 22 January 2012.

However, they are willing to give us a chance to break that record up there if we want to… and since my blog already has  111,467 comments, all we need to do is… wait… this is math… I suck at math… what is 10,207,946 minus 111,467? That is how many comments we need to make… and I say we make most of them on that post where we are still trying to set some kind of record for comments in one place whether it is recognized by anybody or not.

Oh, and the good people at GBOWR also said this:

Certificates

You have been accepted to attempt a mass participation record and we want everyone taking part in your event to share the excitement of a Guinness World Records title.

We offer everyone who takes part in a successful mass participation record the opportunity to purchase their own official Certificate of Participation following the approval of the record by Guinness World Records.

Once you receive confirmation from Guinness World Records that you have achieved a new record, these exclusive certificates can be purchased via the URL link below. The unique verification codes are required when placing an order and are essential for every participant wishing to access these products.

As the event organiser it is your responsibility to share the URL and verification codes with everyone taking part in your event.

**********************

Yes… that’s right… they have offered us the chance to give them money so that we can all have certificates saying we are trying to break a record.

All I can say to that is: someday, when my blog really has taken over the world, we will let them pay us for the chance to advertise on our blog.

Now start typing, people, we have like 10,000,000 or more comments to get through.

Forget the GBOWR. Start your own book of records: PMAOBOWR.

  5. *sigh* My typing fingers are already numb from trying to meet the last milestone.

But serins has a good point. Do the requirements specific what kind of comments? If spam comments count, certainly you’ll hit your goal a lot more quickly.
