Before I start sharing pictures of our trip, I should familiarize you with this lovely little island…
There is a nice map I got off Google. That island has more climates in a small area than any place I have ever been. We spent one night, our first night, in Hana, way over there to the right. The Hana highway is famous. It is curvy, wet, and often only one lane wide when the tiny bridges pass over a river… and there are a lot of rivers. And there are a lot of waterfalls. You are going to see some pictures of waterfalls. These first two days were very exciting for me. I have never seen real tropical jungle before.
This map shows all the roads we drove on. I think the whole island is only about 80 or 90 miles long… maybe even less than that… I could have looked it up, but I didn’t. The X’s show the furthest place we got to one the roads. I underlined the two hotels we stayed at.
I think we did a pretty good job of seeing the island. I mean, we saw the hell out of that island. Most of the roads that are past the X’s are dirt roads… and our rented car was not a good off-road vehicle… as you will see in the coming posts.

Maps & directions & everything!
I try to be helpful.
Aww, you marked your visit with X’s… thank you for taking me with you to Hawaii 🙂
HA!
Look forward to hearing more
There is going to be another delay…
(You didn’t mark where the locals try to run you off the road?)
Very cool trip!
I didn’t have enough red ink…
It looks like it is a stunning place. With all those areas. I can imagine you went through a lot of photo stuff there.
you have no idea…
I can only imagine. I think I would have needed a few more batteries and memory cards
I had four people taking pictures… and more than one camera
The maps are great so we can follow along. Funny, I never thought about starting in Hana. It was always a day trip for me.
We got the long drive out of the way…
Nice!
We were in the tropical rainforest in St Lucia. incredibly beautiful.
I loves me my jungle.
Sounds like it was an epic trip!
We did a lot in a short time…
It’s a rental, who needs four wheel drive? lol. Yeah, looks like you covered some territory alright. We’ve got to hear about those volcano’s man!
We will get to that.
There is a wonderful song that talks about Maui. Here are the lyrics:
I’m going to Maui tomorrow
To marry Tamara Malone.
Nothing could be finer
Than to be in Lahaina
And make Tamara my own.
I’ll smile on the isle of the valleys
And live a life of delight.
I’m going to Maui tomorrow
Unless I get lucky tonight.
You’re welcome.
awesome… we went to Lahaina… thanks for sharing.
Actually I left out something. The last two lines should read:
I’m going to Maui to marry Tamara tomorrow
Unless I get lucky tonight.
HA!
