To continue or amazing adventure, I took the girls on a walk around lake Anza in Tilden park. I always loved this lake. You might not think this looks particularly adventurous.
I mean, yeah, there was a duck sleeping in a tree… and that branch is way higher than it looks like it is… I think that duck thought it was an eagle.
And yes, we saw some cute little turtles.
But the trail itself was pretty adventurous. I don’t know if the picture captures how narrow and slippery it was. Someone could have gotten their feet wet!
And look at that. We were hanging onto the rocks… the wet, slimy rocks, dangling precariously hundreds of millimeters above the water.
And who knows how old that bridge was.
And there were roots and rocks to stumble over, and branches to bump your head on.
Okay, sometimes a walk around the lake is just a walk around the lake… but there were a few parts of the trail that seemed exciting at the time. And an adventure is what you make of it.
We finished off this lovely day by having a bunch of friends come to my mom’s house, and we used the sushi kit Mollie gave me for Christmas and everybody rolled their own sushi.
That really was an adventure.

“100’s of millimeters above the water” Hahahahahahahaha!
oh yeah
Your lake looked like it could have been any one of our Canadian lakes. If I didn’t know you were in California I would have thought you were no where near it.
We have almost every type of outdoor environment in California.
See how much I learn from you? I am but a grasshoppa.
hop that grass
Ok, so I just pulled down my street this morning and to the T intersection about 4 houses down from mine, and after a brief pause to be sure there weren’t cars approaching, (ok I was kinda coasting thru my left turn) when I saw THE DUCK! Laying in the STREET. Good Grief! Just about where my tires would have been. Thankfully I saw him but when I looked in my rear view mirror he was still just layin there in the street. He really coulda picked a better spot to lie around one would think. Great. now I feel guilty that I didn’t stop to check on him. or get him to move. Or take him home with me after work. gah.
Then at the next intersection out of the corner of my eye I saw something black start up a tree. At first I thought it was a funny looking cat but it was a squirrel. A jet black squirrel. We don’t have black squirrels in these parts. Brown and grey sure. Not jet black. Now I wish I woulda grabbed him too. A mallard duck and a black squirrel. That’s just what I need.
Maybe there is some kinda duck rebellion about to happen….
Weird huh?
The universe is sending you a message… to duck the crack squirrels… or something
I wouldn’t think crack squirrels had any fur. or hair. or teeth. at least not a nice set of any of the above
I have a good dental plan…
That duck resembled Al. A lot.
well it would, wouldn’t it?
I felt like I just went for a walk.
yay
They are fantastic. I see what you mean about the duck. It’s not often you see them in trees.
It was way above the water
It was telling people to duck
And then it sends you a bill
The only response I got to that is silly ones about quacks, and that is stupid.
I think we did all these already
Several times
ha
what a beautiful place to take the family! There are turtle and ducks too.
Tilden park is a huge, green, lush area…
If I tried rolling my own sushi there’d be rice and seaweed all over the floor.
What a great adventure! And I love your photos. (The duck is my favorite.)
The duck didn’t even move when we walked by…
Must be a good place to be a duck then.
sigh
WELL? It must! It’s a duck. It can sleep soundly in the middle of the day with people traipsing about nearby without fear of molestation. Sounds like a good place to be a duck to me…
They are usually very nervous of people.
EXACTLY. So this must have been a pretty good place to be a duck, no?
good point
Do you see how much easier everything is when you agree with me?
😉
I agree
viaduct? vy not a chicken? vy not a goose?
HA! Vaya con dios
unless it wasn’t a real duck. It could have been a decoy. Or a phone. You know just in case there was an emergency and you needed to make a call.
like if you slipped and got your feet wet…
ha
A duck call?
I ducked into a phone booth once
I’ve been known to occasionally duck calls.
ha!!!
excellent! I don’t know why my head didn’t take me there!
Because you aren’t a bird brain?
Yes, but I do catch Duck Dynasty on occasion….
oh lawdy
It could have been a trick-or-treating penguin
it isn’t halloween.
they don’t have calendars…
