The thing… (you knew there was going to be a thing, didn’t you?)… about the desert is that if you add a little water, it turns into something completely different…
They have a tiny little zoo in Scottsdale… and behind it there are some cute little manmade lakes.
They are full of ducks and geese and swans. They even put fish in them that you can catch.
I guess this is what you would call an artificial oasis.
You sometimes felt like you were in Egypt.
I will show you some pictures of the birds later. But for now, look into the distance at that big rock. It has a natural cave going all the way through it.
The next time we go I am going to climb up and take some pictures from that cave. We sort of ran out of time on this trip.
So there you have it. If you can get water into your desert, you can change it into a garden of Eden. I guess the question is: How long before you run out of water?

I feel like all you need are some dinosaurs. Those photos are just begging for dinosaurs.
I could Photoshop some in
YES.
You know birds are the living descendants of dinosaurs…
Oh snap, Aussa, you’re like picking up my brainwaves or something.
I was going to say the pictures reminded me of the dinosaur sculptures around Granger, WA, especially at a man-made lagoon. Yes, I have some photos of the time we went to go visit with our son:
I need some dinosaur statues.
Well, I’d say meet up with us in Granger, or something, but most of Eastern Washington is off everyone’s beaten path.
My daughter’s boyfriend’s family has a ski place there… somewhere…
Make one
That looks cool
It’s a bit of a hidden treasure– not easily accessible by I-82 (the main freeway). Much easier to see by way of an older highway.
that sounds like my kind of adventure.
I like that oasis! I sent you an email 🙂
I will get to it… another busy day
you’re just so popular
I am sort of… it freaks me out.
you love it!

Thank you, you’ve helped simply by reblogging!
I don’t know what else to do
You’ve done a lot!! Thank you!
shucks
I am on it
Yay thank you!
sure
What a cool place — the caves that is. I’m looking forward to the next round.
me too
Where do they even get the water?
Colorado river
Hmmm. I shall ask my wife, but it would seem to be with the amount of evapotranspiration that would occur in that environment, making artificial lakes in the desert likely isn’t the best use of resources.
It never is but they do it anyway
I think I should start planning a trip to visit my brother. This time I won’t get sidetracked in Vegas.
That does happen now and then… don’t pass through it
Any snakes?
Yay for snakes! I have a big one for a pet actually
yea you do
I so do, she’s now on a bit of a diet she got to fat and lazy. So now she gets one large rat every other week and we’re exercising her a bit. She’s over 5 feet long now too.
That is so cool… I want pictures of a fat snake…
I took some yesterday but she’s so big I can’t zoom in so the pics don’t do her size justice. I mean her length as well
make her form a loop
oh she does
oh
Last time we saw a rattlesnake… not this time
