Brains!!!

We know so little about what goes on inside the human brain. And trust me, I know even less about what goes on inside my own crack squirrel-infested cranium. So today I am going to just sit here and do one of my rambling posts where I start typing and have no idea what I am going to say or how long it will take me to say it. This might even end up being another series. Lucky you!

I have been thinking about brains lately. Which is sort of funny if you think about it… HA! We use our brains to think about brains. They are thinking about themselves. How cool is that? But ironically, we can’t really watch them while they work… so to speak… I mean, have you ever tried to pay attention to what you are thinking about while you are thinking about it? I don’t mean just listening to the answers your brain comes up with when you think about something. I mean try to pay attention to how your brain does what it does. Try to use a separate part of your brain to monitor your brain while your brain is thinking about itself… go ahead, try it… we will wait…

What about not thinking about stuff? If I told you ten things and then told you not to think about them, do you think you could do it? I know not thinking about stuff is easy for stupid people… but we don’t have any of those here, and even if we did, I doubt they would read this post.

And what about when our brains don’t function as they are supposed to? Believe me, I am something of an expert in this field. What about when our wires are crossed or there is too much or not enough of some chemical being produced. I have met so many bloggers that suffer from depression and other mental issues. It sometimes seems as if creativity goes hand in hand with brains that don’t function in the way they are supposed to. Or maybe… just maybe… creativity is so important that our brains are experimenting with new ways to wire themselves so that we can be even more creative, and some of us are just early experiments on the way to this result.

That seems like it might require at least one more post.

Let me think about it.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………..

We must be on the same page today. This morning, while waiting for my antigen blood test thing to make sure I’m still in remission, I was thinking about the brain. I wandered down the “mind over matter” path, and wondered, “just how does the brain do that?” So, I’m thinking about how my brain works and the inexplicable power brains, in general, have over our bodies and emotions, when the really big question hits me:
“So, if my brain goes in the wrong direction, couldn’t it blast my antigen levels through the roof and creating a cancer situation?!”
I then preceded to think about not thinking about that until my name was called. I think you probably understand what I mean.

Brains thinking about brains thinking about…oy!

    • I have always wondered if there is some correlation between sickness and the brain. When we are young we never think about being sick and we usually aren’t. Now I am old and I thinks about being sick a lot, and I frequently am. Like maybe the very thought of some germ or cancer could somehow give it the chance to get inside you. And you always hear about people overcoming disease through positive thinking, but that seems a little hard to prove one way or the other. And going back to one thing I said in one of the posts, telling ourselves not to think about cancer or sickness isn’t going to help… it just makes it worse.
Thanks for reading and I hope you stay well.

When ever you wonder if creative people think so much differently (Just look at that beginning word order in this sentence.) just think about the number of times you make a quip or of the wall joke and get that “Huh? Oh, yeah.” stare and response. I mean, just look at Robin Williams when he starts free associating and a man whom I believe was his possible inspiration, Johnathan Winters. The thoughts come to quick to be edited as they spill out and you are in both in awe and stupefied by the process. Setting aside the consideration of genius for the moment, the process that creates those thoughts and associations is absolutely amazing. Does anyone know the answer to this creative question that recurs every time I listen to the Castaway theme by Alan Silvestri: How did the idea for the device of Wilson come about? Where did the idea of a bloody hand print on a ball that is representational of a face come from. Please don’t just tell me from the author Lucy Irvine or screenwriter Bill Broyles, Jr. I mean, DUH. I want to know the genesis of Wilson.

Speaking of the geneses of things. I have a present for you Arthur. Enjoy it as only a another music lover can.

    • I now live for these moments when I can start a conversation and have it take on a life of its own… and you, my friend, are one of the finest contributors to these conversations. I mean, yeah, I like doing the funny pictures and stuff, but this blog is actually making me think about things way more than I ever would have thought… ha!… it would. I will try to check out those interview things. That looks interesting.

I could send an actual image of me typing naked if so there won’t be so much mental pressure conjuring one up in the future. “Conjuring.” Intriquing word, ay wot?
